Hawaii-based Airlines - Would this OGG-HNL HNL-mainland be too risky?

Hey folks,

I am currently booked on HNL-mainland on Thursday 7/9 at 12:40pm.

If I were to go to Maui first, what time would you recommend I depart from OGG?

Would HA520 9:40a-10:17a be too risky?

I'm not familiar with HA's cancellation/late departure rate. (Is it anything like AS's?)

Thanks!

If I understand correctly, you'd have 2:23 in HNL. That's plenty of time even for a UA connection (the furthest from the inter-island terminal).

HA has an excellent on-time/cancellation record. And OGG-HNL is the most heavily serviced inter-island route so even if you were on one an hour later you'd likely be fine.

I agree. The more dangerous time of day to travel is the late afternoon since one delay can cause a domino effect for later flights throughout the day.

But for nearly 2.5 hours, I think that's enough.

+1

I am doing a similar thing. OGG-HNL-Mainland. I have a 2.5 layover in HNL and I'm not sweating it one bit.

I've only flown through HNL once, but it was very smooth and I had to make it all the way out to the commuter terminal in less than 2 hours and had no problem.

*For interisland flights, anyway. (which hugely skews their overall on time rating in their favor) Nonetheless, this record is great for OPs situation.

Thanks folks. I'm just paranoid. I guess I'm used to bad service.

Something to be aware of is that HA often changes flight times and flight numbers. For example, your HA520 no longer exists ! But there is a similar time replacement.

If your mainland flight was a bit later, I would be suggesting the Best Western for their brunch buffet. We have done that a few times with my kama`aina relatives.
