I'm looking at flying Asiana from LAX to Seoul.
The Asiana web site says if you book a seat for a 1-year-old child a car seat is required. ??? I've never seen this as a requirement, only an option, and onlt if the airline allows carseats for children under 2 years old. What's the real story on this with Asiana?

Welcome to FT and the friendly OZ forum, garya505!

I didn't find the requirement for a car seat on the website but this is what flyasiana.com says about which car seats to bring:

An infant car seat can be used if it contains the certificate market issued by the relevant certification institute in Korea or the U.S.

Personally I would have been impossible for us to let MircoDUF sit in her own seat without a car seat as support. And you will still have to hold your little one during take-off, landing and turbulences

Happy flying!

When you go to book the flight and select ticket for a seat for a child under 2, it says "Infant(s) in a reserved seat (car seat required)".

Elsewhere on their website it says a carseat may be used if it's approved. This seems to be a contridiction. I've never heard of an airline requiring a carseat, only allowing it if it's an apporoved model.

Anyone?

Well I called Asiana and after a somewhat long conversation I think the answer is that car seats are ALLOWED but not REQUIRED. I also asked if the CARES harness was allowed but the guy said he didn't have any information on that.

Thanks for checking. This information might come in handy for some of us in the future.

Yeah, and for me too. I'm not going to spend $70 on a CARES harness just to have the Asiana flight attendants tell me I can't use it when I get on board.
