Anyone traveled from GDL to Chiapas?
Is bus travel an option or is that just too long of a trip?
My daughter will be on spring break for 2 weeks and is looking to head down there from GDL.
Flights are pretty expensive it seems.
TIA

Guadalajara to Mexico City by bus is about 5 hours. Then it's another 12 hours or so to S Cristobal. So yes, it's a long schlep, although the second part could be done overnight. Hardly worth it for 2 weeks though. Why doesn't she concentrate on places that are closer to Guadalajara? Options include Zacatecas, the Pátzcuaro area, or the colonial triangle of Guanajuato, Dolores and San Miguel de Allende; Querétaro is another pleasant city.
Or you could take interjet (or other low cost airline....Volaris, Aeromar, CLick, etc.) to Tuxtla Gutierrez and travel by land from there.
I disagree with the above poster. I have been to most locations in Mexico and Chiapas is by far the most diverse and interesting. It is a foreign country within a foreign country (if that makes any sense).
Enjoy San Cristobal, Agua azul, waterfalls, Canon Sumadero, Chiapa de Corzo and other villages and Palenque if you can.
FYI. A random search of June dates shows RT fares for < $175 USD and APril dates for $250

Bus travel in Mexico is great! You can take first class buses anywhere.
