At the SAS store tonight the clerk told me I'd picked a good day to buy my new sandals. This weekend, their prices are going up across the board. She didn't know exact numbers, but if you're in the market for anything SAS, now is the time to shop.

These are my favorite sandals, but I still have a few years of wear left in all mine.

I had a whole wardrobe of SAS sandals, most of which I have had to throw out. After a couple of years, the insole part would break down and stick to the bottom of my feet when I wore them, so I would have to literally peel them off, usually leaving the bottom of my feet multicolored from the dye.

That's never happened to me, and I've been wearing them for almost two decades. I can get about four years of heavy wear out of a pair, which offsets the high price tag.

It may have something to do with the Florida climate .... although, come to think of it, the first pair that glued themselves to my feet were a pair I wore to a wedding in Wales. Peeling them off me afterwards had my daughter laughing so hard she was literally rolling on the floor.

The key here is "After a couple of years," - how many brands of sandals last more than one year? My first pair of SAS sandals I wore into the ground; and that took 5 years. My next 2 pair are currently age 4 years and age 6 years, and doing just fine. SAS is the only brand I can count on getting more than 2 years of wear from. The only reason I bought a third pair is because I need black ones now.
