The OP id right about the credit. Crystal has been offering $2000 credit on many of its cruises this season. They call it "all inclusive your way."

I just can't imagine paying $680 a night on a cruise and considering it a value trip. Especially when I think what that amount would get me in the way of a house or apartment on the Amalfi Coast, central Paris, a Greek island or a Pacific hideaway. to name a few alternatives. I could drink all the Krystal (pun intended) on the latter choices and move about as I wish whereas on the cruise I am ship-locked. Just not my cup of tea (or flute of champagne, if you prefer).

Your target price for a cruise should be 100 dollars day on Celebrity, etc and 200 dollars a day for high end ships like regent, crystall, etc. So the deal really is not great at all. They are just showing you a retail price that almost no one pays which makes the deal seem good.

Crystal is one of the best cruise lines out there, and their prices reflect that.

Have you been on a Crystal Cruise? You, personally? Is this a personal endorsement, based on your own experience?

I agree crystal is ONE of the top lines but do not be a sucker. Even Needless markup and Saks Fifth Avenue discounted goods this year that never ever ever were discounted before.

You can cruise for less than $49.00 bucks a day right now if you check AOL travel site.

This price is undoubtedly the cheapest available on this line because it clearly is a positioning cruise -- 5 stops over 14 days, trans-Atlantic, requires buying a one way air ticket, etc. Most people not ready to die or not writing a long novel don't take positioning cruises. Might be good to find a better example.

If you're waiting for $200 per day on Regent or another all inclusive cruise line then you'll be waiting a long time. I've seen some decent deals on Transatlantic repositioning cruises but nothing even close to this in several years (before they went all inclusive). I agree that Regent has been pushing the envelope on pricing, but they have come down quite a bit lately and the new inclusions can make some cruises a decent value. $200 per day per person would probably not cover their costs though.

i guess i wont bother in the future :D

RichardInSF, FYI dont say a crossing is a "repositioning cruise" in front of a cunard cruiser . :D

my first and only cruise was a seabourn crossing. (on the "list" are alaska and nomade yachting.)

and to clarify, all-inclusive cruiselines (seabourn, seadream, silversea, regent, hebridean) start at ~$500/nt per couple.

Yes, you can cruise for $49 a night. You can also spend the night at Motel 6 for the same amount of money. Crystal is a luxury cruise line. You not only get your transportation and entertainment but all meals which are excellent including a Nobu restaurant and a specialty Italian one. Try adding the bills for that to your hotel room in any city and see what you come up with. On even more inclusive lines like Seabourn, Silversea, Sea Dream and Regent all liquor and tips are included as well. And on Seabourn you can have caviar any time, any where.

You are foolish if you think you need to spend $500 a nite to cruise with Silversea, Regent, Crystal.

John (FFM Junkie), am sure Centurian did not account for Regent's military discount, but (fyi)
I can get $200 per diem on the (see price quote below) May 1 Navigator repositioning sailing--not that I will take this offer--but as a Vet, applaud Regent for making it available (unlike SB, SS or Crystal)..and the CEO told me a few weeks ago, Regent is working pricing to expand their mil discount program beyond just consolidators.

9 May 1 Fort Lauderdale, FL Regent (Radisson) / Seven Seas Navigator 6.0 $4,895 $1,800

Henry (Wripro)..nice analysis...gets to why we cruise at least once a year.

In a decent balcony suite, or down in some dark hole on the inside? Cruise pricing is all over the place 'cause there's so many types of cabins.

Inside cabins do not exist on any of these luxury lines.

Hmmm... that seems like are rather harsh and fairly sweeping statement. Though, I personally, would not spend that type of money for a cruise, "value" is an inherently subjective and fairly personal thing.

Some for example, might question, the perceived "foolishness," of something like say, paying an initiation fee and a $2500 annual fee for a charge card (or even $450 per year for that matter).

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...

That's what keeps jumping to mind to me as I read this thread. While I have sailed Regent (back when it was Radisson), HAL has become my current cruise line of choice. For the cabin I book, the average per-day cost is $1500-$2000. Of course I could sail one of the true luxury lines for that kind of money, but in a very middle-of-the road cabin.

So it makes me wonder if the $680 on a Crystal repositioning is for a bottom-category cabin (most likely) or something spacious and desirable.

No matter what kind of cabin or suite you occupy on HAL or any other mainstream cruise line, the minute you leave your cabin you are in the midst of thousands of other passengers and the service and ambience reflects that. On a luxury line, even in the lowest category cabin, the service and food are of the highest quality. That is what you are paying for.

Yup, no question (although from reading CruiseCritic, I have to question that the service and food "are of the highest quality" on Regent, Oceania, Crystal, Silversea, and Cunard anymore).

It's like anything else. You can probably spend more for a top-of-the-line item from a mainstream supplier than for a bare-bones item from a "luxury" supplier. And only the individual consumer can decide which is actually the better value that best meets their needs.

Don't worry. Crystal already has similar offers and even better ones for the rest of 2009 and 2010.
