SMH reports today:
Etihad eyes closer links with Qantas (http://www.businessday.com.au/business/etihad-eyes-closer-links-with-qantas-20090329-9fjc.html)[SMH]
...Etihad, based in Abu Dhabi, would seek ways to work more closely with Qantas, which last year failed to agree on a merger with British Airways, Europe's third-largest carrier. Qantas announced a code-share arrangement with Etihad this month for four Middle East destinations.

The code-share deal "gives us the ability to work closer" with Qantas, Mr Hogan said. "They have made it clear that they intend to operate into Abu Dhabi in 2010, so we'll look for ways in which we can feed each other."

He said Etihad, flying into Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, wanted "at some stage in the future" to see itself operating in Perth as well.

www.abc.net.au will likely host a podcast of an interview (on the ABC's business show) with James Hogan; worth a read if you have time to look for it. :)

I wasn't aware Qantas wanted to operate into AUH directly!
