Radisson goldpoints plus - Radisson Goldpoints vs Hyatt Gold Passport

I have now had experience with both programs and have the following observations.

Both currently have a 20,000 bonus point promotion (I have maxed out both) however, I can do more with the 20,000 Hyatt points than with Radisson. I did not realize that the Hyatt hotels range from 5,000-18,000 points per night. The 18,000 point hotels like the Park Hyatt Paris-Vendome and the Park Hyatt Tokyo are often over $1,000 per night.

The value of the points at Radisson are as stated, worth less than Hyatt: a good example being that I am redeeming around 60,000 Goldpoints for a four night 1/2 point stay at the Radisson Lima. This required maxing out two promotions to get a $600 four night stay.

At Hyatt I can redeem awards at a more reasonable base amount and just earn the required amount needed. This is done fast as points are earned on total room charges, not just (as with Radisson) your room rate. Also all Diamonds can chose the 1,000 points (500 for Hyatt Place) for their Diamond gift. Thus five stays and you have a minimum of a cat 1 or 2 hotel free night (cat 1 =5,000, cat 2 = 8,000). The majority of mainline Hyatt/Hyatt Place are in those two point levels. What can you get in a 15,000 point Radisson?

The 50% Gold Elite bonus is better with Radisson (Hyatt Diamond is 30%) however the extra points get you little. The 500 online bonus and the 1,000 online check in promo is great but sadly gets you little.

Radissons are good value for what is often spent (in Florida) however, often Hyatt properties are very competitive as well as having great bonus point promotions. As well often Hyatt Place is very close to the price of Country Inn. However the Hyatt Place is MUCH better, with 40 inch flat plasma TVs in every room. Their lobby is like a Starbucks, they are so cool. Now as a gold elite I do get suite upgrades at Country Inn, however I still like the Hyatt Place better as well as a free drink coupons that Diamond are given.

It’s a hard deal with how things are in this economy; we all want a good value for what we spend. Between the two programs, even though Radisson is often much less than Hyatt’s (though not always) the extra benefits given and earned under the Gold Passport program, makes it the better deal. I want points that are useful, not just plentiful.

I would be curious on the thoughts on this and other differences you all have seen.;)

I'm Gold at GP+ and Diamond at Hyatt; i agree overall however these two chains do not compete with each other for the most part. To me its like comparing a Ford Taurus to a Cadillac; not the same market and you don't expect as many bells and whistles from a Tauras than you do a Caddy

I will say this, GP+ gave me a 100K point bonus last summer, I've never rec'd anything close to that with Hyatt so that sure does offset some of the redemption variances

When I am equally fine with staying at any of a number of hotel properties, I've turned it into a mathematical exercise.

I've calculated the value of a point in each program based on how I would personally redeem the points - different for each program.

Based on that math, a Hyatt point is worth $0.0067 and a Radisson point is worth $0.0020. For any particular stay, I calculate how many points my spend will earn in each program (plus any bonus points) then pick whichever yields a better total dollar value for the points.

Guess it takes a little fun out of it but it gives me confidence I'm making the right choice given the payback.

(Obviously this does not apply when I really want to stay at a particular property - tho even then, it's a sanity check to make sure I'm not leaving too much on the table.)

How did you get that?

I kinda have to use Radisson properties, I live in Norway and Radisson has the best coverage of any major hotel chain in Northern and Eastern Europe IMO. I also like staying at the Hilton but there are not enough of them in the places I travel, and there sure aren't many Hyatts around here either.

How does the IHCG chain stack up for you in your hotspots? The point accumulation is far better than Goldpoints (thanks to decent promos). In truth I prefer the Radisson hotels (will look for these on leisure stays) but 120k in IHCG points nets me more stays than Radisson would and it didn't take me a month of Sundays to earn.

Worth a look perhaps?

Sorry IHCG?

The main cities I visit are Moscow, St Petersburg, Kiev, Oslo, Baku, Astana, Hamburg, plus all sorts of crapholes around the Caspian Sea and Russia.

Ironically I got the bonus while doing 3 weeks at the SAS Scandanavia in Oslo

All I remember is seeing something on here (FT-Radisson GP+ forum), registering and about two months later the 100K posted. I don't even recall the requirements.

Well I did my claculation. For me Radisson GP+ point is worth $0.0054. I'm just basing it on 100 000 GP buys me 18000 BA miles. If i wanted to buy them for cash it's 436 euro or give or take 575 USD.

I am now staying at the Raddison Worldgate Orlando, using the half-point 4 night promo. Under 27,500 points for 4 nights!! I was surprised (I have stayed at this property 10 times before) that Gold elites are now given a basket of goodies and a robe in the room. This would be like the Hyatt Diamond Amenity. Is this something new program wide?

A manager at a Country Inn & Suites told me they have to upgrade their rooms to new linens, flat screen TV's, the round shower curtains, and a bunch of other items --- sounds like they're trying to compete more with the higher-end mid level hotels.
