:) Hi All! I am new to this forum, but wanted to share an offer for SPG AMEX that offers 10K starpoints & $100 statement credit after charging a stay at a Starwood Hotel.

I just opened a new account on-line (instant approval) through the following link:

https://www143.americanexpress.com/apisites/LandingAction.do?partnerId=95&channel=1000&landingCode=9

Then I was able to use the new account number to book a reservation at the Aloft in National Harbor, MD for 2 nts @ $129/night.

I decided to open the a/c on-line b/c I was afraid the $129/nt deal would disappear. (I had been looking at the hotel site for a while & kept seeing rates around $200+/night!)

I hope you opened a Starwood Business card because according to the fine print, there is no mention of the personal card getting the $100 credit. See fine point item #2:

"2. To receive $100 off your next stay, you must be approved for the Starwood Preferred Guest® (Business) Credit Card and charge a stay at a participating Starwood hotel with the Card within the first 3 months of Cardmembership. The $100 will be applied as a credit to your Card statement approximately 8-12 weeks after your stay, provided your account is in good standing and not in default. $100 off offer is for first-time Cardmembers only. Only one $100 statement credit per Cardmember. Reservation must be made directly through a Starwood website. "

Actually, I had tried to apply for the business card, but couldn't get instant approval, so tried for the personal card & got it (I was afraid to lose the special rate). I had made the same observation that you noted, --however when you go to the actual application page for the personal card -- it gives the same offer offer for the personal card, as well, with the same conditions. So, we'll see. I guess I should print out the info. in case there is a problem.

Good to know. I'd definitely print out and/or PDF the terms page so that you can argue your case and get your $100 credit if it doesn't post automatically.

The funny thing is that I just checked my e-mail & apparently I was approved for the business card, as well -- just not 'instantly'! I guess I'll get the miles on that one, as well - lol! I suppose I can plan to stay at another Starwood for one night in order to get the credit.

I want to choise from SPG business card and Fidelity AMEX.
Which one is better? Fidelity AMEX is 2% cash back for everything and 1% foreign exchange fee.

I think it depends what features you are looking for in the card. I specifically was interested in the SPG AMEX for the starpoints. I already have several other cards that I accrue other benefits with.

I'm not really familiar w/the Fidelity AMEX, but it doesn't appear to be issued by AMEX, like the SPG AMEX is. However, the 1% forex fee sounds interesting & is valuable if you using it for int'l travel. I would say that 2% back is good, but other cards have periodic offers for 5% back on purchases in certain categories.

Also, the SPG Business AMEX has some benefits that are good for a small business, so that is more appealing that the personal SPG AMEX card.

Thank you. I will think about it. I like starpoints.

Now the two cards (visa and AMEX) are popular this year. 2% cash back for everything and no additional foreign exchange fee.

As you pointed out earlier, the Fidelity AMEX has a 1% FX fee (& is stated in T&C), but the Schwab says there's no FX fee. When I travel, I typically use my debit card at the ATM to get the best FX rate. You have to check your bank's policy as to any transaction fees.

So, it really depends on how much you are spending on these cards & what you prefer, in terms of 'rebates' for your spending.

Thanks for this useful offer. It would appear to be good for people who
Want to stay at a Starwood property, and who
Will not spend $15,000 on the card in its first six months.
However, most people would consider the 15,000 bonus points of other offers for spending $15,000 in the first six months to be worth much more than the $100 credit. Remember that 20,000 points converts to 25,000 miles on many airlines. Also remember that you have to stay at a usually high priced Starwood property to get the $100. I prefer small, locally owned lodgings whenever possible, as that is where I am more likely to interact with locals. (OK, so sometimes it isn't possible. the Clarion Hotel at Argentina's Iguazu Falls was ugly, but very nice, and was the only place to stay convenient to those spectacular falls.)

Those 15,000 bonus points offers can be found on my website below in the Credit Card > Free Cards > Starwood section.

I saw the $15K offer for the SPG AMEX, but was pretty sure that I was not going to be spending that much on any card in the next 6 mths, and felt that the $100 credit was more practical & easier to get.

I do appreciate that for those who know that they will be able to meet those parameters ($15K in 6 mths) -- that is worth more than the $100 credit.

You may get selected for financial review for charging that much that fast...

I'm sure you're right -- esp. with the current trend of banks chopping existing credit lines! In any case, I am not going to get myself in situation of indiscriminately charging stuff just to get the starpoints!!

Why would you say so? This is the standard offer available on SPG Business and Personal Amex cards and many people here on Flyertalk has used those offers and charged 15k in 6 months.

I am aware that Amex is cutting credit lines and doing FR, but I do not believe that this specific offer alone will trigger a FR. I honestly do not even know if anybody knows for sure what triggers FR.

I would imagine that it depends on what the cardholder's spending habits are, relative to their past spending history, -- that may or may not trigger an FR. I'm thinking that it might draw attention as 'suspicious activity,' esp. if the cardholder previously had a low credit utilization rate & all of sudden started spending like crazy on the card!

Because that's just what happened to the person I urged to apply. :(

It was her first AmEx card ever and was trying to reach 15K threshold including US Mint and TC purchases. So YMMV.

It has been discussed in other threads on this forum that purchasing cash equivalents can trigger FR, however I strongly doubt her FR would of happened if she was just buying merchandise. (but with Amex, one will never know when they can pull a FR or reduce your credit line)

More times than not it's when AMEX thinks you have too much credit exposure, i.e. too many cards, or at least that's the general impression I've gotten from reading all of the threads about it.

I'm sure that any 'unusual' spending patterns relative to one's credit history can easily trigger an FR, aside from security concerns.

I bit the 10k+15k offer, got instant approval, but with a pathetic credit line of 2000. :(

I have a blue card with a 15k line, but now that CL rellocation is not allowed by AMEX, any chance I can get a decent line for this SPG AMEX card very soon? I do have a FICO score of >750.

I got my SPG Business Amex in November, 2008 with 3K credit line. No increase as of today. Requested a CLI 1 month ago, got a decline with Ameex standard letter (low credit score, to many new open credit lines) However, did nott open a credit card for awhile before this one and my credit score was around 780. They even said they pulled my credit report, however it is not showing up on my report. Go figure.

To answer your question, I do not think you will get a CLI anytime soon.
