American Express Membership Rewards - AmEx Platinum vs Priority Pass?

Sorry if this is misplaced, but I am looking for input on if I should choose AmEx Platinum or Priority Pass. For now I am flying mostly coach and with different airlines, but I try to select Delta or Continental. I want a card that can give me benefits and airport lounges access until I get Elite status.

I know PP will give me access to lounges regardless of when,where and what I am flying. Will AmEx Platinum will do the same?

The only thing I do not like about PP is that I have to pay for guests.
As far as I can see I get some hotel benefits as well with AmEx?!

But what are the annual fee, and guest fees at airport lounges?

What would you recommend and why?

Platinum AMEX:
If you have a ticket on the specific airline, you can use that specific airline's lounge.
Airlines are: CO, DL, NW, and AA

So if you fly with those airlines in airports where they have their own lounges, Platinum AMEX is excellent.

That is only 2, there are more available. Keep in mind that Amex platinum US lounge program is limited to CO, DL and AA. International platinum cards might have priority pass membership included.

ICC Platinum card holders get a complimentary prestige level priority pass.

I don't know where you live or if you are eligible for ICC. But its worth taking a look at.

The fee for the dollar card is 550 dollars a year
The fee for Priority pass prestige is 400 Dollars.

The Platinum seems like a better deal you pay 150 dollars more for getting comprehensive travel, medical and card rental insurances.

Others have covered the main differences, assuming you're a US-based cardholder and are talking about AA, NW, DL, and CO lounges: Amex Platinum has free guests, but allows access only if you have a same-day ticket on the lounge's operating carrier. PP gives access to participating lounges regardless of who you're flying, but charges for guests.

This is a curious statement. Airport lounges in the US are membership lounges: having a first-class ticket or elite status does not automatically grant you access. An int'l premium-cabin ticket will grant access. The only time elite status comes into play is if you have the highest tier of elite AND you're traveling on an international coach ticket. Other than that, elite status has nothing to do with lounge access, other than possibly a discount on a lounge membership purchased from the airline directly.
