Mexico - Tulum: Do cheap cabanas still exist?

The last time I was in Tulum was 2003. At that time I rented a beachfront rustic cabana for 200 pesos per night. No electricity, hammocks only, outhouse bathroom, no hot water. I don't recall the name. Was 2-4 properties south of the tulum ruins. I have heard that over the last 5 years Tulum has converted itself into more luxurious living. Do any of the cheap rental cabanas still exist?

Tulum has really gained in popularity the last 5 years. I do not know if you will find a place in that price range that is clean/safe/secure etc. I saw some really scary reviews!

Below is a link to a search on trip advisor Tulum hotels so that you can take a look at what is top rated by folks who have actually stayed there. You can limit search to low priced properties by using tools on the left side toolbar.

I have stayed at the top rated and good value Posada Luna del Sur but it is not located on the beach.

cheers

I want the cheapest and dirtiest....kind of like camping. The place I stayed at was next to Don Armando's (i think that was the name).....like I said, there was no electricity, no locks, no bathroom. just a palm cabana with a hammock and concrete floor on the beach with ocean view for 200 pesos.....

Valuables stay elsewhere.
