American Express Membership Rewards - Measly 15,600 Amex Points? Good for anything?

So I'm switching from Amex Green to Blue and want to spend 15,600 reward points before I cancel.

What's the best way to maximize that reward?

Amex keeps telling me to call the airlines - the airlines tell me to call Amex. Your typical customer service infinite loop.

Help!

There's discussion on the Amex MR forum about good uses of MR points:

Amex green points don't transfer to blue. Wish they did.

If it were me, I'd consider transferring them to Southwest Airlines. You'll get 10 credits for 10,000 MR points. You need 16 credits for a free flight. If you don't otherwise earn them through another credit card, it would take 3 round-trips on Southwest over the next 2 years to earn those credits, which will then give you a free flight anywhere they fly.

I think they will combine automatically. I have a Amex Blue with MR points. Then I applied for Amex Gold Rewards with MR bonus points. All points were added to the same account. I closed the Gold Rewards card, but my points are still intact. So, apply for the new card first. See if they combine, then decide whether to use points or not.

Oh, they'll remain, but they'll be much less valuable.
