Asiana Club - New status question

I've read through the guide on the new gold/dia/dia+ membership tier but I'm a bit confused, help :)

I have 12k miles occurred on sep 07
I will have 12k more miles from my current trip to Japan (UA)

would this put me over current gold requirement and give me 2yrs from the date 12k UA miles go into my account?

I'm going to get Amex card and get 5k intro mile plus I will spend more than $10k to get 20k miles: so I'll be over 40k miles total. Would this give me 'old-gold level' or new diamond level?

and this is all considering that credit card earned miles are counted toward status. (KE doesn't allow that afaik)

Your 40K won't be enough to achieve diamond because your 12K occured in sept 07 was accured before new threshold was introduced. Your 12K miles from your current trip to Japan won't put you over Gold as well because you don't fall into either new or old threshold.

Simple as it is, to achieve NEW gold/diamond/diamond+ status, OZ will count miles accured on and after 1st of October 2008. You can still achieve gold/diamond status with old threshold at the moment provided you meet the old requirement which is 40K for gold, 100K for diamond.

Every airline in the world does not give you status miles for signing up or spending on credit cards, unless they have a special promotion and clearly indicate that they are status miles. When OZ says they give you 5K bonus miles, you can be 99.9% sure they won't be status miles. All OZ bonuses I've ever gotten were not status miles.

So as already mentioned, you'll only have 12K miles towards your status, and will need an additional 8K miles via flying to get to Gold, and an additional 28K miles via flying to get to Diamond. There are no shortcuts to earning status with OZ except for flying that I'm aware of.

So if you would have used last years Australian Amex promotion then AA Plat would have been yours for life with just a bit of spending.

Or be a France resident and subscribe to Amex Flying blue gold.
