If you're flying space available on a carrier, can you get access to the respective club with your amex platinum?

For that matter, can you do the same with a priority pass?

I'm trying to decide if I should upgrade my gold amex to platinum, or get a priority pass membership.

Thanks.

PPass does not require a ticket so that shouldn't be a problem.

AmEx access does require a ticket, but as long as you are actually ticketed it does not matter if it is a revenue ticket or not. If you do not have a BP, however, you won't get access with the AmEx.

I've gotten into the President's Club a number of times while non-rev on CO with boarding passes that had no seat assignment as i was standby. Never a second look at all.

the unlimited PPass costs £259, and the annual fee for the Platinum is £300, which gives you 2 PPass, worth £518, it is a no brain if you use this benefits a lot, not talking about other benefits, such as travel insurance, car rental insurance..... ^

I saw someone recently try to gain access to the KLM lounge in Amsterdam with a Platinum card, only to be denied.

I seem to remember that access with North America showing Amex card is possible, but not elsewhere. Glad to be corrected...

It is not a North America thing but a lounge operator thing. The lounges in AMS are operated by KLM and KLM is not a participant in the program. If one were to try accessing the AA lounge in CDG while flying on AA, however, access would be granted. There are very few foreign lounges that it provides access for.

That would be because the Platinum card does not earn you access to the KLM lounge.

Only Amex Platinum Charge card has this benefit: www. american express.com/platinum or you have to have a card that has a benefit of Priority Pass, that includes Citi Platinum Amex Card and many others.
