Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer - Cabin Baggage on SQ

Hi all SQ regulars ... some background: I'm flying next month in Y class, SYD/SIN on the A380, then following morning, SIN/HKG on a standard 772. So, question... will I get away with taking my 3-fold (so not too deep) suit bag, AND a small day-pack (the kind you get for free, along with your gym membership)?

I'd really prefer to travel without checked baggage, so how vigilant are SQ staff at SYD & SIN? Will my (NZ) Star Gold status count for anything in this regard?

I've always had problems in Australia with the standard size AND weight of carry-ons. I recall that once in PER I was forced to go back and buy another bag because the weight was over 7Kg. Two bags was no problem, just the weight of each! Hong Kong has always been very difficult about more than one carry-on so if you have more than one (Are you carrying a briefcase also?) you will need an "Exemption tag" to get by the ferocious little ladies before security. You must get this at check-in and it's no problem for F/C. Your SQ Gold status should help.

I have allways had problems with hand carry out of Oz ..... the staff really do stick to the rules to the letter. Slightly OT, but remember i was not allowed to take a can of deodorant on board because the lid/cap was missing (this was before the LAGS regulations).

Ex SIN you will have no problem .... maybe just check your bags into SIN then hand carry on to HKG??
