Asiana Club - check in bags all the way

Hello all,
I have a question. I would be travelling LAS(via UA)-LAX(via Asiana)-Incheon(via Asiana)-MNL next week. I know in McCarran Airport UA counter, they would check my bags all the way to Manila and weigh it... My question is, in LA, would Asiana reweigh the bags again to see if it is 50 lbs or such? As I talked to my travel agent, she informed me that my checked in bags would be weighed again in LA granting the fact that it has already been shipped all the way to Manila(and I wont need to claim it at the baggage carousel no more, its gonna go all the way into Manila). Any truth to this or the porters just transfer bags directly to Asiana on my onward flight to Manila?

Usually, you will be fine - but if you're unlucky then they can demand payment when you board and/or at the lounge.
- The basic position is that you are liable to pay any excess baggage charges, even if they have been tagged through.
- The practical position is that you are unlikely to be asked for any excess baggage charges.
- The caveat is to not be surprised if they do ask you for extra payment

stargold is spot on. They could weigh it but it is very unlikely that they do and even if they do it is not likely that they will charge you for it.
You might however have UA enforce the OZ baggage regulation.

thanks for the response downunderflyer and stargold..
Actually for a follow up question, I would be diamond in this flight already(when I arrive in Manila). Granting that I am still Asiana Gold now, there is the 10 lbs extra weight i can bring from OZ carriers. Would you think there would be a problem if I checked in my 3rd bag(20 lbs-for 2 bags) if UA permits me to check it in--without incurring extra charges? I would show them the confirmation that Asiana Gold has an extra 10 lbs per baggage, and considering I have 2 allowed bags, I would check in my handcarried as well.
"Additional baggage allowance for the Gold member All N/V 10kg(*)"
If UA permits me to bring that 3rd bag, do you think Asiana in LA would question me why I checked in 3 bags(just explain to them that the 3rd bag is the extra 10 lbs they have for Asiana gold members)
thanks for the input guys..

You might think you will be a Diamond but from an OZ perspective you only become one once they make you Diamond. So don't expect too much levy based on this being the Diamond Flight! ;)
As a Gold member, the way I read it you are entitled
2 bags of 23kg each
plus 10kg extra on Asiana but only if you are not flying Trans Pac. Since you are traveling Trans Pac you have no additional allowances. So my guess is that talking UA into allowing a third bag will be a challenge.
If however you can convince UA, then I think OZ won't be the problem but of course I can be wrong.

thanks downunderflyer for the response..
so if assuming Las Vegas United Airlines counter would accept my 3 bags without incurring excess baggage, do you think Asiana would question it, or it is hit and miss as you have said? I'll see if UA would allow me the 3 bags checked in all the way, my concern is, when I go to Asiana counter in LA, they might see that UA permitted me 3 bags, and do you think they would ask me for payment yet it is already checked in all the way? Im thinking if that happens, I would just pull it out at LA and ask my friend to pick up the extra bag then. I wont be checking in any more bags at LA, as it has already been checked in all the way from Vegas to Manila.
thanks for answering downflyer earlier.

If UA lets you check in the three bags (and I think they won't), then why would you need to stop at the OZ counter in LAX? You can just go to the gate as UA will issue the boarding pass.

i would need to get my boarding pass with OZ at LA..thats why I need to go to OZ counter. I am wondering if UA does let me in the 3 bags, if they would be charging me the extra bag then from LA although it has been checked in all the way from vegas

UA won't let you check in 3 bag at all, it is 2 bags 50lbs each for international. If you want to checkin a 3rd bag, I think it is $200 for US to asia. The rule is almost standard for most transpacific airlines.
OZ gold equal to *A silver. OZ diamond equal to *A gold. Only *A gold can check 3 bags 70lbs each. It doesn't matter OZ gold gives you extra 10lbs, as you are flying on UA from LAS, not OZ, what it matter is from the point of origin, that is where you check your luggage all the way thru MNL.
