Yeah, that slide show could easily be retitled with any of the dozen or so midwestern cities (such as my own) littered with such "hulks". What I continue to find amazing is the enlightened media's lack of introspection about how these cities managed themselves into this situation. I don't need to point out the political persuasion of the ruling political class in all of these cities. Such a shame that the residents go on voting for the status quo...

I would like to know the photographer's reasoning for consider the Fisher and GM building "ruins". I wonder if he got out of his car and actually walked inside? I have to agree that the Michigan theater was a huge loss, but then he chose to ignore the restored Fox, State, and Opera House.

Every couple of years someone does a story like this. Several years ago a Canadian photographer had an exhibit with the same theme, and then there was the guy who said downtown Detroit should be roped off and preserved as a prime example of urban decay and turned into a theme park.

and has as nice a Broadway theater as you'll find anywhere in the country.
