Hi Sydneysiders,

I am taking some young staff up to see a factory, and whilst I would prefer a taxi, I HAVE BEEN TOLD that we should catch the subway, as it will be more fun Is it possible to catch the rail at QF domestic and end up in Gymea Bay Road. I hope it is too hard, I can just imagine them all on a crowded subway system, giggling, screaming, telling everybody we are from MEL, whilst I am pretending I don't know any of them, and thinking "Why me?". If there is another mode of transport, plse advise.

Assuming we finish the inspection by midday/oneish, where should I take twenty year olds who if they had a preference would do the bridge walk, BUT they/I will not do it. I imagine we all can catch a train from the center, back out to the APT to catch the eight o'clock home. Don't laugh, I believe I have to sit with them in Y, as some have never been to SYD before, so much for a stiff drink, one has to set an example:(, regards bkkrop

Take a taxi. I'm assuming you have only one day in Sydney? Gymea is quite a way south from the City, at a guess would probably take near on an hour to get back to the city by train, maybe 35-40 mins by car. The train fare is $24.60 pp return I would guesstimate a cab fare at about $60 one way.

As for what to do afterwards, is boss paying because that will effect options. Maybe you could go for a pub lunch in the City. The Lord Nelson is the oldest pub in Sydney and serves some great microbrews and a mean pie and mash.

If you want something a bit more Sydney try Opera Bar (http://www.operabar.com.au/Home/522/n/3/0/0/).

Many thanks to all, as bensyd showed, concensus is, a taxi is cheaper, a trip to Bondi has emerged as the favourite Sydney "thing to do" regards bkkrop

You can get a train from the Airport (Domestic Terminal), change at Wolli Creek onto the Illawarra Line southbound (Cronulla branch) and get off at Gymea (from where you might need to get a taxi to your destination).

However, I shouldn't have thought that it would be more fun to get a train than a taxi: although the Sydney rail network is reasonably comfortable and fairly efficient (compared to some urban networks, anyway), I have rarely heard it described as fun!

In addition, depending on the number of people and how many taxis they need, the monetary saving from catching the train might be minimal or non-existent.

I agree with the other posters who have suggested getting taxi. Presumably the place that you are visiting will be able to organise taxis for your return. If not, Taxis Combined (http://www.taxiscombined.com.au/index.htm) (tel: 133 300) is probably as good as any other.
