KohoutekNot in Las Vegas, but once in Monte Carlo. I was at the casino, betting $20 a spin on roulette. The guy next to me was betting $10,000 each spin. Kohoutekyes. my friend's b-i-l in a private room $40,000/hand at bj (with a split on a pair of aces) $140,000 out on a craps table at one time $250,000 out at bacarat (and us with our big $25 bets....) baccarat_king Mar 17, 09, 4:18 pm Next time you feel like flushing your money down the toilet, cut me a check instead. The only game you have a chance at is baccarat. :) Are you trying to get my attention, magiciansampras. :D Actually, to be fair, if you are playing European Roulette (not American) in Monte Carlo, and it's a single zero wheel with "en prison" rules, the house edge is around 1.35% The edge for baccarat is, 1.06% on banker, and 1.24% on player. So, there are most definitely worse things than European Roulette. Actually, Atlantic City double 0 roulette has a modified "en-prison" rule with a house edge of 2.63% on even money bets. Though, there is no modified "en-prison" rule for single 0 wheels in the AC high limit rooms, go figure. Oh, I was well aware of that. I didn't think I would win. I wanted to pretend, if only for a few minutes, that I was James Bond. My usual game is blackjack which, of course, wasn't available there. Well, James Bond plays Chemin de Fer. :p:p kingalien Mar 17, 09, 5:44 pm Ever sat/stood next to a whale? I think the house edge in European Roulette is approx. 2.63% for all other bets. And, in this forum, threads really do need to stay related to Las Vegas :) Those that veer too far from the topic of this forum may well relocate to OMNI if that makes them more on-topic (if anything is on-topic for OMNI! :D) cblaisd Senior Moderator Kohoutek Mar 24, 09, 5:49 pm yes. my friend's b-i-l in a private room $40,000/hand and bj (with a split on a pair of aces) $140,000 out on a craps table at one time $250,000 out at bacarat (and us with our big $25 bets....) He likes others being at the table. The night I was mentioning was the night before his wedding on the floor at both Bally's and Paris. He's not all that concerned with the comps as they take care of themselves for him. He'd rather have an available car, a free flight and a larger cash comp for showing up than getting a nice suite and dinner at Caesar's (which he hates playing in). bbbb Apr 4, 09, 1:52 pm I have been on a few trips with Friends of my best friend that bet $10,000-25,000 a hand at BJ. No way in hell that I was going to sit at the table playing $25-100 and screw up a $25,000 hand! Great trips as you don't have to pay for any thing, all comped. Kohoutek Non-NonRev Apr 6, 09, 9:44 pm About 20 years ago, at the (then) Reno Hilton, I stopped at a blackjack table on the way back from breakfast. A guy who looked like a disheveled rock musician was playing four spots at a time at a $3000 maximum table. I was at the table for a half hour - in that time, he quadrupled his pile of chips, then hit an extended losing strip, then recovered so that he was back to about double what he had when I got there. Kohouteknope, the 2 young guys were already there sitting in the 4th & 6th seats @ this $25 min. bj table. didn't know how long they've been there or how late after i left. didn't ask. reason is because i like to sit in the 1st or last position when playing bj. and since 1 of the guys were already at 6th, so i just sat down on 1st. never asked if they were friends but they were pretty friendly and didn't care if anyone joined them when i sat down. 2 bad i was too old and married, otherwise.....:D anyway, they did played min. bet on a few hands for about 10 minutes and suddently they started to plop down $1K+ bets, i felt really out of place and wanted to leave. but of course, i was winning and they seemed friendly enough, i stayed. they also didn't seem to care if i was playing with min. they had to change dealers several times (i guess making sure no cheating going on). it was the most fun i've had.;) Kohoutek Apr 7, 09, 4:15 pm My wife sat next to Steve Wynn's mother at the Golden Nugget one night playing $1 slots. He bet $90,000-180,000/hand on roulette with this pattern of 2-4-6 chips over 1/3 of the board. He had pads of $100 bills (how do get these) which seemed to be attached at the tops of the bills like a notepad, and he would periodically throw the $100s in the air as tips to the dealers. At the time, someone at Harrah's said that Watanabe was their 1st black card player, and that he was down $43 million to Harrah's alone. http://lasvegassun.com/news/2009/apr/29/grand-jury-indicts-watanabe http://omaha.com/index.php?u_page=2798&u_sid=10568632 http://casinocitytimes.com/news/article.cfm?contentID=176927 The Wynn had a roulette table set aside for him, and I watched him play there. In 2007, I saw Sammy Farha http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Farha playing $1.25 million in Blackjack, at a table with a $3,000 limit (Very rare to see Blackjack limits over $10,000 these days). He had a stack of big red $25,000 chips. I think it was at Bellagio at the 2 big player tables in the public area (Stand 17 area). In 2009, I haven't seen anyone playing more than $50,000-100,000 at Blackjack yet. |
