Going to Lake Charles for a couple of days, and looking for dining suggestions.
Prefer something local, certainly NO national chains. Hopefully Cajun or some seafood, but open to suggestons.
Last time there got a suggestion from one of the locals, but was somewhat underwhelmed with the lack of atmosphere. Food was OK, but the presentation was non existent. Tried on Chowhound, but no advice there.
Thanks, EmailKid

Since this thread is not getting much action, I suggest you try posting your query on chowhound.com. On each of my visits to Lake Charles, I drove the three hours to New Orleans to eat. Seriously.

As I wrote in my OP, tried that already.
Here's the good news: Went to Google maps, put in Cajun Restaurant in "search nearby" my hotel (actually in Sulfur, LA, about 10 miles east), and read through the various reviews. Hollier's Cajun Kitchen on Ruth (exit 20 IIRC), had great reviews, and this was confirmed by the checkin person at Hampton Inn (you can see the sign from I-10 and use it as a landmark).
Seems crawfish is in season, and it was damn excellent :D
Not much atmosphere, but it's a local joint, so just enjoyed the food. Saw diners eating other things that looked delicious, but I would definitely pass on the buffet.

I am sorry that I missed this earlier. In Lake Charles we have a Hackett's kitchen, for cajun food, allegator, etc. But if you come back I strongly suggest Pat's of Henderson, right off I-210 (337-439-6618). For fine dining $$$$ La Truffe Sauvage (337-439-8364) off Lake Street in Lake Charles.

Lake Charles is a lovely place...especially L'Auberge du Lac. Id be particularly interested in hearing about other experiences in town.

From someone living in Louisiana, THANK YOU. However, I don't believe the word "lovely" is even in the description the Chamber of Commerce uses when describing Lake Charles. ;)
