I was looking at the offers in Malaysia to see if it was worthwhile doing a matress run, since there's the on-going NAN promo. To my surprise, there's a new promo until Mar 23 for arrivals on Thu, Fri and Sat, and for stays until Sep 7:

1. Westin Kuala Lumpur - RM395/night
2. Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur - RM265/night
3. Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur - RM310/night
4. Sheraton Subang - RM210/night
5. Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu - RM290/night
6. Four Points Kuching - RM200/night

Seems worth it right? :)

These are regular rates available during most times of the year, hardly a "promo" and definitely not one which deserves a thread of its own.

Some of the rates are a little cheaper than usual. Particularly the first 3 KL hotels.

Thanks OP.

These are regular "weekend" rates on spg.com for at least the past few months.

Not sure what you mean.

The cheapest regular rate I could find for Le Meridien KL on Fri, Apr 24 is RM350. But with this promo, I could get RM265.

Rates at the LM has dropped to below MYR300 (weekends) for quite a while.

If you are able to get a MYR165 rate with breakfast and one way ERL ticket thrown in (like what they did a few years back), thats what I call a "real" deal. MYR265 is a decent rate but I would not get too excited over it, I have stayed there a few times with such rates.

If you really feel the MYR265 rate is such a good deal, you can always post it on the master thread. There will be thousands of new threads if everyone on FT were to start one whenever they find a "decent" rate at a SPG hotel.

Let's be gentle. The OP is new to the forum, and has very informatively shared information since his arrival. Let's find a way to say there are better deals to be found without discouraging he or any other new member from continuing to share.

mario33, like I said the lowest rate I could find for Apr 24 is RM350/night (that's prepaid mind you) for LM Kuala Lumpur. This current promo gives me a 24% discount over that rate - I believe that difference is significant enough. FYI, I went on to book a night each at Westin, Le Meridien and Sheraton from Apr 23-26.

I'm new to this SPG thingy, so if you can get below RM300 on Apr 24 please show me how because it'd mean I'm missing something here and I'd like to learn.

I couldn't put the promos under the individual hotel threads because it doesn't make any sense since a consolidated one would make it easier for anyone planning a stay in Malaysia to view at one glance.

The rates seem pretty good to me but mainly because the dollar is a tad bit stronger at the moment. I can say that I booked what I thought to be a pretty good rate in May 2008 of 450MYR on a weekend (which are almost always very cheap) and it included breakfast so that rates mentioned above are definitely better than that.

I do not however have enough recent experience to know if these rates are typical on weekends now. I would say that anyone wanted to do some mattress running and are in the KL area.....these rates are pretty darn good. Especially if you are Plat as you should enjoy you mattress run for sure! Definitely beats a mattress run at a Four Points at Chicago Ohare (my usual). :)

I am not saying MYR265 at the LM is not a good rate, its pretty decent but not something to get excited over. Even during the "good times" (like a year ago), the starpicks rates were quite similar.

As for the above quoted rates at the Westin and Sheraton Imperial, I think you can do much better than those if you search hard enough. The SI do sometimes go below MYR250 on weekends.

Actually, I dont really disagree with you but if you are looking for a mattress run in SE asia. The KL LM looks like a pretty darn good option.

Just go to the hotel site and click on "Hotel Offers". There's a new promo which says "Save Up to 50% Off" - most use the code MARLTO.

Unless you are looking to switch between Starwood and Hilton hotels, I am puzzled why you consider this hotel as being a good option for mattress run.

Cheap it is not (rates at Sheraton Imperial is usually lower), location is far from everything (except the railway station) and in terms of comfort its behind the Westin or SI.

I wonder whether you have actually stayed there ...

+ one ^.

I'm also not sure that comparing current promos to expired ones from 'a few years ago' is that helpful either.
