Air New Zealand Air Points - Tier Qualification Period

Hi all, I am only a O/W trans-tas flt. away from achieving GE status, from my current G. My G membership year rollover is July 18 for earning & Aug.18 for "usage" purposes for the want of a better word. Anyway, I likely have a trip to Asia coming up in April/May.
Q: even if I make this trip in Y or Y+, I will theoreticallly "turn GE" during the first flight AKL/HKG or NRT, having come across from SYD. So ... do the Status points I earn once I hit GE, count towards re-qual for next year's GE, or are they lost in the dreaded "dead month"? Did that "dead month" get axed in the recent program changes?
Any help with this appreciated, as it may be better to just fly SQ or TG and requal for Gold, well on time for the July 18 rollover.
Cheers, Starbear

Couldn't you take a cheap roundtrip to CHC to requalify before your asia trip?

Hi Kiwi Flyer... sadly not, due biz & pvt commitments. A status point run would have been the ideal thing to do, but then I'd also have to wait at least a month before doing the Asia trip, wouldn't I?
From your post, I gather my concerns re the "dead month" are correct. Have to say... the ancient Byzantines would have been proud of something as diabolical as AP's Dead Month!

Sorry I do not know. I haven't read anything on it lately, and it has been many years since my NZ status changed so no recent personal experience.
AKL-CHC-AKL can easily be done in an evening (same for AKL-WLG-AKL for that matter).

Hi again, KF. Thanks for the advice... unfortunately, I live/work in Sydney, hence the difficulty in finding the time to do a status dash. Oh well...

Ah SYD requires half a day, or an overnight turn (dep SYD evening get back early next morning).

When I qualified for Gold 1st Nov last year I got the notice that it would be effective from 1st December.
I didn't know about the "dead month" at the time, so I continued to credit flights to my Airpoints account. I then read about the "dead month" on FT and started crediting flights in November to BMI Diamond Club instead.
When the Gold status kicked in on 1st December, the flights I had taken in first half of November had been credited toward my Gold requalification - which suggests that the dead month is no more.
At least that is what I am hoping as I this month credit flights to Airpoints while waiting for Gold Elite to become effective April 1st. (No joke intended).

Hmm - I hope that is the case. I had to raise quite a ruckus with multiple explanations and spreadsheets with NZ to get them to realise the problem in August/September last year when I went from *G back to *E. Maybe they've fixed it!
