Hawaii-based Airlines - Would you fly Mokulele or HA OGG-KOA in June?

For those Hawaiians out there, I know this is purely speculation, but if you were me, would you book a direct flight on Mokulele in June from OGG to KOA? Or would you just book on HA connecting through HNL? I need to leave in the evening and it looks like HA has a pretty limited direct schedule.

If I were you, I would move to Hawaii. hahaha.

I was you once, I used to live in NYC.

I'd book the Mokulele.

Have you checked PacificWings' schedule? They also fly OGG-KOA.

Haha - yes, that is clearly the correct answer. I'm moving to California in the Fall so I'll be 1/2way there.

Thanks. I saw Pacific Wings as an option but I've never heard of them. Are they a reputable carrier? Their website didn't exactly inspire confidence. (Sorry to hijack the thread)

Pacific Wings has been around for a while, and AFAIK are fine. Their aircraft will be smaller than you are used to, airport procedures more informal, view during flight far better. Luggage may be a problem if you are heavily laden.

I'd go with the non-stop on Mokulele. But that's just me. The Caravans are smaller than Island Air's Dash-8 but it's a fairly short flight, although probably not very scenic given that it'll be nighttime.

If 3:50 p.m. can work for you (I know you said "evening" but who knows), Island Air also has a OGG-KOA flight.

Pacific Wings is lots of fun (loved one of my OGG-ITO flights in a storm at night as the only passenger!). But one must be aware that their schedules are sometimes rather "flexible". They do lots of charters, and as such, sometimes the planes are VERY late in arriving for scheduled flights. It's happened to me on three different occasions.

yep, you are following in my footsteps. I first moved to California for 10 years, then moved to Kauai, then I spent what I call the lost year in Florida (try to avoid that if you can, I wish I could have avoided it) and finally ended up on Maui.

I don't know where to go from here. Maybe the Philippines. hahaha.

Anyway, Mr. Cblaisd and our resident footwear man, Mr Slippahs, and the other local boys already gave you good answers to your question. Good luck.

And don't forget on Mokulele you at least can get miles with Alaska and I'm told one other "big 6" partner soon.

Both Island Air's & Pacific Wings schedules should be taken only as a reference point. I have yet to have an on-time flight on both. We got so tired of the delays we have moved all of our flying to Molokai over to Mokulele. I had one flight on Island Air to MKK 4 hours late... not to say delays and cancels don't happen - but they are happening in greater frequency at Island Air.
