I was listening to Channel 9 as we pushed back at LAX (of course :)). Ground control directed us to the penalty box and said it would be 5 minutes until wheels up. Immediately after, another controller instructed us to taxi to the runway and hold. Our pilot asked the second controller whether there was a 5 minute delay or we would go immediately. The second controller said, "I have an emergency coming in so I want to get you out."
We took off, flew on to SFO and received permission to land. As we're coming in, I noticed fire trucks and other emergency vehicles lining the left runway. We were on the right runway so I assumed they weren't there for us. Listening again to Channel 9, I heard about a Jet Blue aircraft that was holding on the runway because the pilot wanted someone to inspect his wheels because he thought the brakes had over-heated. Minutes later, I heard one of the rescue vehicles confirm that his wheels looked fine. As we taxied to the gate, I noticed that all the rescue vehicles were still in place.
So . . . anyone know what the emergency was at LAX? And what was going on at SFO?
