Ryanair, fresh from their success in getting people talking about a non-existent loo charge are now doing a competition for the next discretionary charge

Unless it's a very early April Fool joke, I can't see the humour in this .... just another Michael O'Leary publicity stunt in poor taste.

I could'nt help myself:

You should charge for seats (actual seats), in a scale way:
- no charge if you decide to go to the standing-up area
- 1 € charge for wood bench comunal seating
- 10 € for a seat
- extra 10 € if you want your seat with cushions (which can go up to 20€ if you want the cushions to be cleaned before you board)
- extra 2 € if you also want an individual table in your seat

This is not an original thought, but I don't know how this contest makes airline safety procedures a big joke. Scroll to the bottom:

The toilet paper suggestion is funny, though. And Michael O'Leary shows some good humour allowing such suggestions on his own site.

I'm surprised no one else has commented that the 737-800 looks very much like a 747 on the outside on that safety card.

I did a quick search and didn't see this (http://www.ryanair.com/site/DE/news.php?yr=09&month=mar&story=pro-en-120309) posted anywhere, but find it hilarious.

I know some of you FTers will have your own ideas - let's hear them!

Ryanair, Europe’s largest low fares airline, today (12th Mar) invited passengers to suggest the airline’s next ancillary revenue idea after Chief Executive, Michael O’Leary, confirmed that the company is examining the possibility of passengers paying to use the on board toilets in a drive to keep costs down and lower Ryanair’s guaranteed lowest fares even further.

I was just on a flight out of SFO which someone who regularly flies Ryan Air. She was over here on business. She was asking if Alaska Air still provided anything in flight or did she need to get more cash. She then told me about being charged to use the toilets on Ryan.

All I could think of was the Alaska Airlines commercial from the 80's where the guy is doing the pee-pee dance up and down the aisle asking for 4 quarters for $5.00 so he could use the plane's toilet........... LOL

Since we already have a thread going in Budget Travel I'm merging it with the original one. And since it's a more descriptive title, I'm keeping that as well.

"The suggestion I like best so far is a passenger in Sweden who has suggested that we should produce rolls of toilet paper with my picture on it."

He certainly know how to get publicity :)

Of course charging for on-board toilets would not be feasible, but as a believer in all publicity is good he's managed to get a lot of press out of it.
