With new club policy, you need to accumulate 20,000 miles or 30 flights for gold and more for diamond and so on..

I get certain miles for 2yr period for renewal. but do they seriously mean 30 flights per 2 yr for renewal or is it permanent gold class after you fly 30 times on OZ ?

Would you give someone a lifetime OZ Gold (*S) to someone who flew 30 times on OZ or more for OZ Diamond (*G)? It's common sense. OZ did not write anything about giving a permanent memberhsip except platinum so take their word literally as it is.

Realize that for a lot of people, domestic flying is about all they ever do. For Koreans who fly a lot domestically, but little or no chance to fly long-haul international, this is a nice way for them to earn status even though their mileage is very small. Domestic flights in Korea are very short, so taking 15 round trips (30 total segments) might earn you less than 10,000 miles, but would be enough for Gold status. Other FFPs (TG comes to mind) also have similar qualifications for members who tend to mainly fly short-hop domestic flights.

For people who fly long-haul flights, the flight segment qualifying method is obviously meaningless.

Welcome to FT and the friendly OZ forum, larciel!

A lot of programs have or had two ways of qualifying for status:

1. According to miles and class flown
2. According to how many flights you were doing.

So LH for example until a couple of years ago allowed you to qualify for Senator when you were doing 100 flights on them in one year.

In countries like Korea the flight distance can sometimes only be 100 miles. So someone who is regularly flying domestically would never make status because even after 100 flight they would only have 10,000 miles. So it is for this group that OZ introduced a qualification based on flights, not miles.

30 flights might sound a lot to you but it is not. Micro-DownUnderFlyer (DUF) had 30 flights under her belt before she was one year old. And there are many people here on this board who will fly this in a month or two (not on OZ so).
