hmm i've called in today for some redemption ticket and found out they have a few new things.... New calling system for MPC and new policy for redemption- can redeem down to 24 hrs flight (for BA)? Since when are these in place? Or I've just got an incompetent agent? In a way it's good, but it sounds too good.....

I've always been able to redeem CX flights up to 24 hrs before, it's just that you can't waitlist if the flight is less than 3 days out - the availability needs to be there right there on the spot. I don't know about BA as I've only redeemed CX before.

I have redeemed some AA award flights about 48 hours prior to departure, and even managed to change them a little more than 24 hours prior to departure.

But one "new stuff" that I disapprove is effective Dec 14, 08, the inability for agents to verify you based on your pin, but you need DOB, address and phone. This is going to be a headache for many people who have multiple addresses and phone numbers, and didn't know which one they registered. Meaning, longer hold times for everyone!

Next time you call you can ask an agent to set up a single password. I insisted on not going through the verification process by confirming my DOB, address etc. as I often call the MPO whilst in public space (such as an airport lounge). The security is disportionate to the purpose, we are talking about miles, not real $!

and for me newly green from silver (yikes, but not spending 12K+ for HKG/LHR when its 12K for Y+ in NZ!) i realized there is a phone record now... instead of teh queue. i dont know, i should have called earlier so it would be midnight in HK and less inconvinient for me....

Never got through, Now that i can get through I can't ticket for the flight anymore. Even worse, agent has NO clue or whatsoever Lisbon (or in its Chinese) is....

yea i know. 1. it was a last minute thing for the date change and 2. it is finally sorted.

anyway, i am really surprised and annoyed when the agent has NO clue or whatsoever Lisbon (or in its Chinese) is.... but given what the kids in this generation do, i'm not at all surprised...
