I have started to plan for a RTW mileage run later in the year to maintain my NZ status, the gods and the economy willing.

I know somewhere on this forum there is an explanation of how status points work on a RTW, particularly when one is changing from one carrier to another eg NZ to LAX, UA on some flights in the US and possibly to LHR, and then LHR - HKG back on NZ.

I have tried the search engine, and combed through KiwiFlyer's excellent stickies, but can't find what I am after.

Any guidance from some of the professionals on this site would be very much appreciated.

When you fly on NZ metal you earn as per the NZ earning rate on the chart on the NZ website, under Airpoints, earning Airpoints dollars, earning with Air New Zealand.
When you fly on other Star Alliance carriers you earn as per the partner earning chart, on the NZ website, under Airpoints, earning Airpoints dollars, earning on airline partners. :)
I hope this is the answer you were looking for?

Yes it is much simpler now. NZ earns NZ rate, other *A earns partner rate.

If you are looking to maximise earning you may want to check out *A forum, and perhaps also my trip reports. Note I haven't yet flown a 16-segment *A RTW, this is coming soon (status maximising dynamics are slightly different with 16 segments than with 24 or 28 as it used to be).

Is it really worth that much to you to retain NZ*E?

Not really, but I am planning to start traveling again in a rather more leisurely way now that I am winding down, and I do like NZ. I seem to remember that if one went over to non NZ metal say in the US on an NZ RTW, and then went back to NZ metal, that it compromised my ability to earn NZ status points on NZ metal, but I may have been mistaken.

I am planning to organise 1 RTW per year in J or F on each of One World and Star Alliance so that I maintain at least Gold on each of them.

Thanks for your and KiwiFlyer's help. I must say after looking at the One World RTW rules, they seem to be rather more flexible than Star Alliance.

Thanks KiwiFlyer, I was on the wrong tram, to use Melbourne speak, but now I am on the right one :)

It used to be like that but got changed last year.
