"Beer is a common element of St Patrick's Day celebrations in the United States" is not a stereotype, it's a fact.

Somehow changing "We're giving free beer because it's St. Patrick's Day" to "All Irish are drunks" is somewhat absurd.

I don't even drink, and can barely stomach typing "free beer" and "undesirable" in the same sentence. Does not compute!

I think the difference is that the Irish and the Italians and other immigrant groups have long since gotten over any inferiority complex they might have had. Therefore they are willing to make fun of themselves and they are not bothered by ethnic jokes and exaggerated stereotypes.

This is why engineers don't mind telling jokes about nerdy engineers: They don't feel inferior, so it doesn't sting.

Now here's some personal advice: If you're going to marry a blonde, marry one who doesn't mind telling blonde jokes.

The best solution I see is to avoid the appearance of insulting the Irish is to expand this to every day.;)

I think it is great. Unfortunately I'm flying on the 16 & 18!
