I am going to Puerto Rico next week. We are mostly planning on hanging out at the beach, but will also go out to Old San Juan, the rain forest, local restaurants, etc. My question is are credit cards accepted at most places? I want to make sure I bring enough cash, but would prefer not to bring more than necessary.

absolutely. In fact, it is fairly difficult to tell the difference between San Juan and Miami in some spots in/around Old San Juan. I have been over a dozen times for both pleasure and business and was always able to use a CC - except for a quick bite/beer at a little beach hut on Vieques (forget the name?)...you will be fine.

Have fun

Except for a couple of movie theatres, I can't think of any place that didn't take my CC in PR when I was there in January.

Thanks for the replies. I feel much safer carrying around plastic instead of hundreds of dollars.

bear in mind, many places in PR have minimum purchase requirements for credit cards (don't even try to argue with them, they just won't deal with you), and a few bars are cash only.
