I'm wondering if its worth it to upgrade to the new 15 inch macbook pro. Hoping its a dramatic upgrade to the old version it replaces.

Depends how old you are talking and what you really want to get out of it. On the specs side, there is a slight bump across the board. Of course, if you just need more RAM, you can always go buy it for your old MBP. Same with a larger harddrive though that is a little harder to replace. The CPU is only slightly faster compared to my MBP I bought over a year and a half ago. The largest leap is the graphics I guess, though unless you are playing lots of games or doing lots of Photoshop I don't think you will notice too much difference, at least until Snow Leopard comes out and more GPU processing can occur.

The big changes are on the style, the new key board, the glossy screen, the no latch closing system, and of course the trackpad. Personally I would not buy a computer just to replace a keyboard/trackpad that I am already satisfied with.

As my mac has gone in for multiple repairs I can replace this with the current macbook pro or wait till the new version 6 months from now. Will the mac 6 months from now be better?

There will always be something even more fabulous in the future. I guarantee it. It just depends how badly you need whatever it is.

I personally waited on the new unibody and just before xmas bought a previous gen MBP 2.53/4GB for 1500$ which was a steal.

Having a couple of the new MBP around the office though, I have noticed a few things.

1. I really knew I would hate the glassy screen, and do. I will wait till there is a 15" matte version again.

2. We don't see really ANY speed differences, and the memory upgrades on the new Unibody were $$$$ compared to the older version.

3. Users of the new unibody are reporting lower battery times than the previous generation, and that was to be expected (and yes, this is with the slower graphics card installed)

4. Some user were miffed that it was now more difficult to connect to remote LCD, projectors etc. due to the new required purchase of the minidisplay port adaptor which wasn't available coming out of the gates.

5. Unibody users LIKE the new form factor, but it is FORM over FUNCTION at the moment, and many have said they would just wait till a real UPGRADE of some sorts occurs.

6. I'm waiting for a chip bump, matte screen, integrated battery, unit and maybe HD isight integration till I jump on that new puppy

It seems the bump wasn't substantial and the look was the main upgrade. Glossy only, lack of extra usb portsand firewire.

I think glossy is here to stay on most laptops. I don't like the new trackpad/no mouse button.

But remember, you don't really buy Apple products, you subscribe to Apple products. Not upgrading misses the point.
