You will probably want to turn off or modify the settings that adds "This message has been scanned for ..." to all incoming and outgoing email messages.

There's a pull down menu in the advanced prefs tree, under email you can change if/when they add that message. I noticed all my work inbox messages had been modified with it, so I changed it.

I also hid the toolbar item in thunderbird. Not sure why they need it displayed in the toolbar, but it was adding an extra toolbar line for me.

ok, I'm starting to understand why the toolbar is there in t-bird.

Some setting in the email filter was interfering with being able to read the RSS feed messages in t-bird. I turned off all email modification options and it started working again.

Thanks ... I have Version 3.0.650.0 (purchased end of 2009).. how did you get V4.?

I had to reinstall it, and couldn't find 3.x anywhere.

It turns out I didn't really need to reinstall it, I probably just had to do a manual db update. But I didn't know that at the time.

It's on their website. Your "upgrade" will be free. I wouldn't be in such a rush though.
