Just wondering if someone can give me an idea of how busy LAX is at the time that CX880 arrives (2015hrs) and how long I should allow to clear customs/immigration so that I can make transfer arrangements.

What day? I usually arrive on Sunday and it takes me about 30-40 mins to clear customs as long as I power walk from the plane to the immigration counter to beat the crowd. CX Luggage usually shows up at the baggage counter around 20 mins after the plane has landed. Oneworldboy Mar 2, 09, 1:57 am I flew in on CX880 on Feb 25th.. China Airlines had arrived from TPE 30-40 minutes beforehand.. and it seemed a couple narrow body aircraft had arrived from various Mexican cities. I'm a US citizen, but collected my one bag and made it through in slightly under 30 minutes. That said, I was not selected to wait in the second "let me look at your bag" customs queue... which certainly adds to the total time. Absolutely use SFO if you have a choice or it's convenient for your travel plans...the fact that it takes 20-30 minutes to clear customs at Tom Bradley Supermax Prison (credits to someone else who called it that, I didn't make that up) on a good day should say it all LapuLapu Mar 2, 09, 5:20 am Absolutely use SFO if you have a choice or it's convenient for your travel plans...the fact that it takes 20-30 minutes to clear customs at Tom Bradley Supermax Prison (credits to someone else who called it that, I didn't make that up) on a good day should say it all Actually, there's a massive renovation going at TBIT that actually is looking pretty good. Last week, its looks like whole ICE section is done. I flew in toe TBIT for at least 8 times last year and I didn't wait more than 45 mins max to go thru. Again, the key is get to the line early, 2nd is Cathay properly handles your priority tagged baggage. soak01 Mar 2, 09, 4:16 pm What day? LapuLapu Mar 3, 09, 12:47 pm We'll be arriving on a Saturday evening and will need to get a transfer/shuttle/limo to Anaheim. Never arrived on a saturday so I'm not sure of the crowd load. I would think Saturday is not very crowded. Rejuvenated Mar 4, 09, 12:05 am 8pm-ish will still be rather busy. If you arrive during the summer schedule when it gets in around 9:50-10pm, it'll be less crowded. Having said that though and hearing the OP is heading to Anaheim, I'd rather fly HKG-SFO with CX and connect to SFO-SNA with AA Eagle. I certainly don't need to go through dilapidated arrival facility and another lenghty ride on the freeway late night to Orange county. soak01 Mar 4, 09, 5:16 am 8pm-ish will still be rather busy. Looks like we'll now be arriving on a Monday night so I guess it maybe a bit busier than on a weekend. We will be arriving into LAX after flying from Australia via Hong Kong on CX, so I don't think we will be able to face another aircraft from SFO. Will stick with CX into LAX (knowing not to expect much) and will have to grin and bare it and hope that TSA are having a good day. Maybe we'll treat ourselves to a Limo Transfer to Anaheim rather than the Disney Bus. Anyone have any limo company suggestions? Also does anyone know what the loads tend to be like on CX880 (operated by 744) in late November/ early December. Before, they barely check bags and such. I always bring business samples (<$100)and I'm 100% truthful on the declaration. For that, they opened ALL my bags, took about 10-15 min to record the sample into their system, and sent me on my way. 1.5 hrs from getting off the plane to coming out of terminal... Interesting, must be some type of thing for tradeshows/samples/etc. I just cleared SFO last week, took me 15 minutes from deplaning to standing outside waiting for my car (I had nothing to declare)... traveler18 Mar 7, 09, 11:39 am I have arrived at Bradley at different times and on different days of the week and it is a random situation as to how crowded they will be. Even 30 minutes can make a difference depending on how many more flights came in near your arrival. Sometimes it has been a breeze, but most times it is crowded. DMPHL Jul 16, 09, 12:44 pm Hi all, I feel bad that my first post is one asking for help rather than giving it! But, as a long-time lurker who has never gotten around to posting simply because I've spent so much time obsessively reading the posts, I'm hoping someone can help me out. So, I'll be arriving on CX880 into TBIT on Friday, Aug. 7, getting in at 10:05 PM, looking to connect to AA30 from T4 at 11:55PM. I have a few questions: 1. How on-time is CX 880 usually? Is it often early? I found many websites that had on-time statistics for a number of CX flights, but none for flights to the US! 2. Will I have enough time to get through immigration and connect to T4 for an 11:55 PM flight? I called AA, and they say minimum time for connections is 2 hours, but is 1hr 50min good, especially if, as per question 1, CX880 usually arrives on-time or early? If it makes a difference, we'll be in business class, so should be more quickly off the plane with priority luggage. Thanks, guys. You're all amazingly knowledgeable, and I promise to contribute in the future as avidly as I read! All the best, Dan Unterwegs Jul 16, 09, 4:30 pm I take the MUC-LAX flight fairly often which arrives around 7:30 pm often. Last week there was nobody in immigration, baggage came out quick and i was out in less than 30 min. Around 4 weeks ago there where still hundreds of people at immigration and customs and it took over an hour. It is really random, but after 7 pm is a good arrival time because traffic is much better (40 min to Anaheim vs. 2 hours in the late afternoon). azepine00 Jul 17, 09, 1:51 pm .. We used a remote gate (not sure if it's common for this flight) so that added 20-30 minutes. The bus is the same for F, C and Y pax so to get ahead in the immigration line try be close to the door. The immigration itself was pretty fast so IMO you should be fine with your connection especially if you can get your AA BP ahead of time. It gets a bit riskier if you have to claim luggage on CX and then recheck it on AA but in my limited experience CX handles priority tags well and you should still be OK. manicflyer9 Jul 19, 09, 5:04 pm Welcome to FT. Now that CX880 is operated with 77A equipment and cannot be turned around as CX883 (which at present is operated with 74A equipment), CX has not utilized 2 gates at TBIT in the late evening. Consequently, all of my CX880 arrivals for the last several months have used remote gates, which are a logistical pain and add on an extra 20-30 minutes to the arrival process. The bus is the same for F, C and Y pax so to get ahead in the immigration line try be close to the door. I hate the remote gates. In fact, I have stopped flying through LAX on inbound from Asia, and remote gate use is one of the reasons. Now I try to take 830 or 840 HKG-JFK. If both are unavailable, I'll fly through SFO. SFO now has a better connection to BOS for me, anyway. The immigration itself was pretty fast so IMO you should be fine with your connection especially if you can get your AA BP ahead of time. CX can issue your boarding pass in HKG for AA connecting flights. It gets a bit riskier if you have to claim luggage on CX and then recheck it on AA but in my limited experience CX handles priority tags well and you should still be OK. If your luggage is already tagged for your AA connection to your final destination, you don't have to take it over to the AA terminal. There is a belt right after you exit Customs at TBIT to drop bags already tagged for connecting flights. stefan.aerts Jul 19, 09, 6:11 pm I did it from getting off plane to been outside in only 12/14 minutes, we parked at a gate that was very close to security and I was the first one into security which was totally empty |
