Hi all
Flying out of Queenstown at the end of August and was just wondering how often flights are cancelled this time of year due to weather?
We are on the 1645 flight to Auckland and have a flight out to Sydney the next day with QF.
Cheers

Much better odds flying Air NZ than Qantas (not sure about jetstar as they take over from Qantas in June). That said, there is some risk. 1645 is likely the last flight out of the day before curfew for sunset, so any significant delays will mean stuck overnight. If weather is too bad then flights are stopped. In winter this may be once a fortnight or so, normally only for several hours but occasionally will last more than a day at a time.
If your Qantas flight is in the morning, then I'd look to change either that flight or your Air NZ one to give a bit more of a buffer.
Thanks
We considered flying out of Dunedin or Invercargill but as we will be in Te Anau, Queenstown was the best bet to fly out of.
If flightstats is accurate there is a greater chance of a delay of cancellation from Auckland to Melbourne?

That doesn't gel with my experience. Perhaps they just keep the statistics better for international flights?
In any case, flying between Auckland and Melbourne provides a vastly greater number of flights and carriers in case of cancellation or ongoing delay, especially compared with the non-stop flights between Queenstown and Australian ports.

QF 25/26 is always at least 2hours late....
Well...... this flight wasnt cancelled but we almost missed out on getting on it as the weather meant that many people couldnt check in. We were two of those unlucky ones! The reason given was that the plane was overweight!
Thankfully when we explained to the staff that we had an early Qantas flight then next day to OZ they managed to get us on.
The ANZ stuff were amazing! Qantas should take notice!
