Hawaii-based Airlines - HA Considering SkyTeam Membership?

I was solicited by HA via email today to participate in a FF program survey. I was presented with a dizzying (and sometimes confusing) array of potential offerings for FF members in terms of flight prices, options, perks, strictures, frequencies, etc.

I noticed among them was a FF program that offered a group of partners that consisted of Delta/NW, Air France, Korean, Continental (for now, anyway), KLM... could it be that HA is considering joining SkyTeam?

Associate member maybe, but full membership would seem to expensive and demanding for a carrier the size of HA (although, they would make a nice addition, IMHO).

No, I think they wants to become fully member of Skyteam. I am fully aware that HA will able joins into the alliance. It will be not too possiblity for that. Perhaps, I think it would be great to see Hawaiian to joins the alliance.

Given HA's most recent codeshare partner of UA (but, then, like the question who hasn't Willie Nelson done a duet with, who doesn't HA codeshare with :D) I have been hoping that HA might become a Star Alliance partner. It would be very, very nice to have intra-Hawai`i possibilities for earning EQMs!

It would be interesting to see what would happen to all those codeshares should HA become a full member of SkyTeam or some other alliance. Some of the codeshare partners might not look favorably on a full alliance with competitors. Given some of HA's stingy FF and other policies, they might fit right in with DL's "enhancement" trend.

It's probably in the agreement between HA and the carriers that the codeshare agreements should cease should HA join a competing alliance.

What about AA, CO or UA will be cease codeshare? Perhaps, DL will able expanded more codeshare partnership from HNL-USA Mainland. I'm confused about HA will expected to get more codesharing from DL/KE/CI/ and etc. They will guarantee can do it for needing more relationship with DL.

This is obvious where HA need joins into Skyteam is more convenient. I thinking about DL need more codeshare flight from LAX/SMF/SJC/LAS/PHX/SAN/PDX/SEA/SFO/OAK-HNL. This is better way where the customers will barely made connection the flight out of Hawaii or USA Mainland.

I think the timing will have adjustable the schedules. Where HA passengers can catch next flight out of west coast all the way to ATL/JFK/CVG/FLL and etc. This is perfect opportiunity for DL flight. I'm sure it could be workout very well. If they will have to being approval from DOT. This is good support for HA need to catch next connecting out of LAX or PHX all the way to ATL or JFK by redeye flight.

You are right about the schedule. The last time I looked, some of the HA flights to the mainland were not timed for convenient connections farther east. If they were able to link up in some way that eliminated the need for redeyes or connections onto redeyes to get to points east of the Rockies, they might have a competitive advantage over most mainland flights.

Another potential advantage of SkyTeam membership could be connecting onto AF and KL flights to Europe from the West Coast. Once again, the schedule might need to be tweaked to avoid long layovers, but it could be done.

A move to a specific alliance could potentially draw interisland customers away from HA. What would keep AA, CO, or UA customers from choosing HA over GO! or Island air as there would be no FF benefit. I think HA should play the Alaska Air card and stick to themselves....they have the market cornered and play nice with other legacies, thus a mutual benefit. IMO

I agree. I see no benefit to joining "The Leftover Alliance".
