I had an amazing stroke of luck flying CX. I somehow don't think this could have happened on another airline.....

I had a massive night out - stayed out all night in HK - went home to pick up hand luggage and shower before heading to airport. I made it to the lounge (The Pier) sat on a couch and promptly fell asleep! My flight departed at 9.40 and I woke up at about 11:10. I basically .... my pants - here are the rules for my ticket:

---------------------------------------

-----------------------------------------------

I was departing on a Sunday and the next flight wasn't till Wednesday - I felt like I was in a bit of a pickle. I informed the lounge attendants of my predicament - and was told that my ticket was very restricted but would see what they could do. To cut a long story short - they re-routed me through Tokyo on the next avaliable flight without any trouble. This did however require me to buy a ticket from Tokyo to Sapporo and to overnight in Tokyo, as the last flight to Sapporo would have already left by the time I arrived.

What was amazing was that - they didn't charge me anything, were completely courteous and understanding even though I felt like a complete idiot. They sent a staff member to purchase the ticket from JAL ticketing in the check - in area for me - I gave a staff member my credit card, and they went off to get the ticket once the price had been confirmed - then brought the ticket and credit card slip back for me to sign. Furthermore - the CX staff helped me book a hotel room at a hotel near Haneda airport (from cheap Japanese websites) - basic but decent.

Lastly as i was boarding my Tokyo flight - I was upgraded to business. The member of staff who handled my JAL ticket was handling the departure of the my Tokyo flight - she wished me a very pleasant trip as she gave me the new boarding pass. The situation couldn't have been handled better. I didn't have to leave the lounge at all - the staff did everything - I didn't have to pay any penalties.

Amazing!

Nice to know that some of the good old bits of CX still work.

You're Diamond I presume?

Yah.. I had similar stories too, but it was due to my travel visa. I was booked on a KA flight and then they rejected me for boarding right in front of the boarding gate and I saw my plane left and my baggage being taken down from the flight. Later, I went to the CX counter outside at check in area, a very nice supervisor helped me out and solved all my problems. I went back to KA, their supervisor was shocked, yet, she still deny me for flying KA.. So, I flew CX! At then, I was only CXGR!

Was that in HKIA? I am surprised.

Indeed a great read! ^

I know this doesn't happen everyday on CX. But it would for sure NEVER EVER happen with the dragons at my "former" airline; KLM ;)

Cheers,
Joe

Yup it happned in HKIA... So for now, if I do not fly into Mainland China or Phuket or destinations only served by KA, I will try not to fly KA. But still, some OT, KA Y offers better catering than CX, for my flights to PEK, KA offer me Häagen-Dazs while CX offer me... Nestlé ice cream....

Hope some Mainland Chinese carriers will join OW soon, like MU...
