Hi all FTers!

I have a specific question regarding my MPC account. I am an SL, currently having 25,217 miles to go for GO, and membership year ends at 31 May 2009. I am planning to travel YYZ-SUB in early May, then coming back to YYZ later at the end of May for an approximately 2 weeks vacation with my family. This means that I will be going back to SUB again in mid June and stay there in Indonesia until September (when my school starts).

This plan of 1 round trip travel (YYZ-SUB-YYZ) gives me an extra of 19,694 miles before May 31st, which makes me 5,523 miles short to GO membership.

Question is, will I be able to call MarcoPolo and ask them to extend my membership year so that I will be able to advance to GO? As I said, I will be travelling back to SUB in mid June (only ~2 weeks after my membership year ends). Can I have some suggestions please?

Thanks in advance, sorry for my long and poorly presented question. :S

Sometimes they will advance your tier even though you are short by some miles (I have seen up to 20K miles!), but it really varies and is unpredictable.

Best way: ask for three month extension!

So call them, explain my condition and finally ask for a 3 months extension? Would there be any cost of doing such a thing?

no cost, but cx has the right to reject your request for extension

It's up to MPO, but, in most cases, they will extend your membership period by at least 1-2 months so that you can advance to GO.

Thank you very much people for the reply. Do they usually decide the membership extension right away? Or does it take sometime to review my account before deciding? If so, how long does it usually take?

I have not asked for extension before, but your next membership year may actually end a year after the end of the current one (without the extension). If so, and if you do not fly 30K in those nine months, you can be down to GR the year afterwards. You should check with the MPC agent when you ask for extension.

Just don't be too disappointed if the answer is no. They review your account for revenue before making the decision.

Thank you, will post an update after I have the info.

I usually travel on Y, which is why I'm not hoping too much on an extension approval :)

Just 3 years ago when I was still a student, they extended my membership year (without me asking for it) by 3 mths, in the hope that I can get Silver (had two Long-Hauls to AKL and MEL). But, I was concentrating on qualifying for KF Gold and gave it up.

2 years ago, I was a couple of thousand miles short of SL, but, they still gave me SL (much to my surprise).

I only made the request for them to extend my membership year by a mth last year when I was on the progress for GO qualification (with a confirmed and ticketed booking on BA to ATH). I recalled the agent said he/she made a note about it in their system.

Nevertheless, they gave me another SL card right before I travelled. Immediately after I completed my trip, I made the call to MPO and they promptly send me the GO card ^ No hassle.

When I asked for the three month extention, I had to show what CX flights that I was booked in. It was about 5,000 miles short, and I was flying 15,000 in 3 months. The MP agent placed me on hold for 1 minute, and came back saying yes. They will write some note in your membership account, and once those miles are credited, you call them back, tell them about your membership notes, and that is it!

Thanks very much guys! I will try to call them and give it a shot as soon as all my plans have been fixed! Will post an update afterwards. Once again, thank you! :)

Oh and regarding this matter that cxfan1960 said, can anyone please confirm?

I only suspect that. I would like to know that too. I have no problem renewing this year, but am concerned about next year.
