I plan a weekend getaway with Mrs Wilco - which hotel is nicer?
Radisson goldpoints plus - Royal Viking or Strand? (Stockholm)View Full Version : Royal Viking or Strand? (Stockholm) WilcoRoger Feb 24, 09, 5:19 am I plan a weekend getaway with Mrs Wilco - which hotel is nicer? dauphine Feb 24, 09, 2:14 pm Hi WilcoRoger, I already staid at both properties. About the Royal Viking: -Good location, next to the railway station, within city center. -Small rooms but confortable. -Awfull service (no recognition og gold status). -Disgusting breakfast. -impersonnal property (lot of rooms). About the Strand: -Not exactly within city center, but close to some nice attractions (grand hotel, parks...) -Nice property. -Nice Room. -Very nice staff (and recongnition of gold status). -Nice breakfast. Honnestly, but it is my own opinion, I'd rather go the strand, especially as I guess if you're looking to a romantic week-end. For sure, Stockholm is a very beautiful city and you can only enjoy this city. Peronnaly, my wife and myself love it. Maybe other forumers have other opinions about both properties. Thx, I'll try the Strand then - it seems to be near the Gamla Stan and downtown Stockholm is well walkable, anyway. SK_RSJ Feb 26, 09, 3:34 pm For a weekend getaway the Strand is the way to go. For a business stay the Royal Viking might be better as the airport express train departs from the same building as the hotel. The Strand has a decent brunch offering on weekends too. On the other hand the Berns (next door) has the absolutely fabulous asian style brunch, so if you are in to Sashimi... Also the location of the Strand is far better for leisure purpose. It is situated in a far nicer part of the city. Taxi to the Strand from the Express Train station is approximately SEK 90:- which equals Euro 10. WilcoRoger Apr 7, 09, 1:32 am Had an excellent weekend in Stockholm. The location of the Strand was just perfect for this (on leaving town, we took a glance at the Royal Viking - boy, were we happy to have been at the Strand) The room had a surprisingly "home" feeling about it, not your usual no-nonsense Scandinavian birch/beech style furniture (which is also nice, btw) Also we had a very nice dinner at the Paul & Norbert - Mrs Wilco much appreciated that she needed to walk on the cobble stones only a very short distance on heels :) Most touristy locations are within easy walking distance, even the Central Train Station was easy to walk to. ^ for the "2 for 250 Kr" Sunday Arlanda Express offer. rock24 Apr 15, 09, 7:09 pm I know this board is for Radisson loyalists, but does anyone have a recommendation between the Royal Viking, the Hilton Slussen, and the Sheraton? NordicLane Apr 16, 09, 4:25 pm I know this board is for Radisson loyalists, but does anyone have a recommendation between the Royal Viking, the Hilton Slussen, and the Sheraton? I visit Stockholm a few times every year, but I have not stayed at these hotels for some years. Based on my earlier experience and location I would recommend 1. Hilton Slussen for sightseeing and very nice location 2. Sheraton for sightseeing, not a nice location but central 3. Royal Viking, for a "late in - early out" one night business trip dauphine Apr 17, 09, 1:56 am I know this board is for Radisson loyalists, but does anyone have a recommendation between the Royal Viking, the Hilton Slussen, and the Sheraton? I already staid at all the properties you mentionned. My preference will go without hesitation to the Hilton Slussen (location, room, view). The worst in my opinion is the Royal Viking, too much impersonnal in my point of view. rock24 Apr 17, 09, 5:46 pm Ok thanks for the advice. I went ahead and booked the Hilton. |
