Air New Zealand Air Points - Is 1 hour transit time in AKL enough for the flights between HKG-AKL and AKL-PPT?

hello, this is probably my first thread in this forum. Hope someone can help.

I will fly from Hong Kong to Tahiti via AKL by NZ in mid June and will arrive AKL from HKG at 9:00am. The plane for Tahiti will depart at 10:00am on the same day. I wonder if the one hour transit time is too short. What happens if I miss the connecting flight? I've checked the AKL-PPT schedule and find that the next NZ flight will be 5 days later:(, but there will be a codeshared flight with Air Tahiti Nui at 1:25pm on the same day, so in case if NZ makes me miss the connecting flight, will they put me to Air Tahiti Nui flight or the next NZ flight which will be 5 days later?

Thanks for any input in advance!;)

I'm not sure what the minimum connection time at AKL for int->int on NZ->NZ is, but if you are on one ticket it must be an hour or less.

Certainly int->int transits are quick and easy, a bit of a walk from your gate to transfer security, then a short walk to the lounge or a longer walk to your onward gate. You almost certainly will be protected on the later flight (exception if it is full then you're out of luck).

Thank u, Kiwi flyer! Yes, I'm on one ticket; the ticket was brought directly from Air NZ website. If I chose different day to fly, then I had to wait 11 hours at the AKL airport instead of 1 hour. I rather get a bit of stressed by rushing the connecting flight than getting stuck at AKL for 11 hours.;)

One more question: Do I need to go through security check (like x-ray) again for transit to the other gate after landing at AKL?

Yes, and liquids rule applies so don't bother getting duty free booze in HKG as it will be confiscated at AKL security.

Forgive my ignorance but, what is the deal with duty free and New Zealand?

Is it a total blanket ban on bringing stuff into the country even if sealed? Having just moved to WLG from GLA I really should know these things!

When I booked my WLG-GLA flight I questioned the 1.5hr transfer time from domestic to international flights quoted on the web. But sure, it was right! The agent said any connections are quoted by the web are all given with sufficient time between flights.

Happy with the answer I received I went ahead and booked the long flight back to glasgow!

They take away liquids if you have a connecting flight- we had to check in some stuff at AKL before taking our connecting flight to NOU. Nothing to do with restrictions on importing foodstuff to NZ.

All international departures, including int->int connections, no liquids through security (other than under 100mls in plastic ziplog bag). No exceptions for duty free bought elsewhere.

For domestic departures no problem taking liquids.

Thus, if New Zealand is destination you can bring duty free liquids from the previous airport (or further afield if transit airport outside NZ allows it). You can also buy duty free on arrival in NZ. If NZ is transit to another country then you should not bring duty free liquids with you into NZ, but can purchase them once back airside.
