Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - No bassinets in F on 77A

Just returned from a great trip to Asia...will post a trip report in the forum, but flying F on Cathay made the long trip much much easier with an infant (+/- 4 months) He fussed for maybe a minute out of 30+ hours of flying.
Anyhow, just a warning that there are no bassinets available in F on the 77A, despite what the website and phone agents might say. Probably won't impact many, but 2A and 2K are shown as bassinet positions, and we had reserved these seats and pre-reserved a bassinet, but when we boarded in JFK, we were told that that was not the case, and no bassinets are allowed in F on the 77A. Lots of discussion, but didn't get much more than it's a safety issue, and "it's a long story" from the ground personnel @ JFK. Not sure about the other classes. Didn't end up being a big issue, as there was an empty seat and the crew made it into a bed for our little guy to sleep/play.
Great experience all around, and was also interesting to compare the 77A and 74A in F, along with the 343 in F and 773 in J, and a number of different lounges.

Just curious, were you flying on a revenue or award ticket?

Interesting. I'm on 830 HKG-JFK in April, my preferred 1A was booked, so I accepted 2A along with the phone agent's caution that I might be bumped if a passenger requires a bassinet.

This is BS as I've seen the Bassinet in F on the 77A before. Either they changed the procedures quite recently. Also the seat on 2A and K is different (you can see the special indent on the partition (near the ottoman)

Something about the HK aviation authorities...I do think it's fairly recent. The 2K suite still had the wording on it that said that bassinets needed to be stowed for takeoff/landing, etc.
We did use a bassinet on the 773 from HKG-TPE, mostly so that my wife and I could eat at the same time on the short flight. At least on that plane, the bassinet is quite small and wall mounted. Still not sure how the bassinet would be mounted in the new first class - whether it would sit on the ledge or some other method. We had a 74A on the way back, but didn't need ask for the bassinet as we were the only ones in the cabin.

Hi Socalterp, interesting to read as we will be on F this summer with by then 6 months old boy back to Europe. You didn't use the bassinet on th 74A, but do you know how big it is? Our boy is already quite big (in lenght) and just wondering if he would still fit inside.

Don't know if it's the same bassinet, but on HKG-TPE on the 773 (old biz class), the bassinet was very snug for our 4 month old. He wasn't happy for long in there, and he's about 17lbs now and fairly long.

Just flew JFK-HKG on 77A with bassinet in 2K. The crew didn't know how to fix the device but luckily we were on the ground and the mechanics figured it out.
Will post a picture soon.
we used it yesterday on SIN-HKG too - it's actually quite big, our 11-month-old could fit in ok too, although she didn't want to stay in there for long...
and the crew was actually quite good and knew how to do it, although also took them a bit of them to set it up...
