I have not found any forums for staff travel/ID tickets, i.e. people working for the airlines and their families/friends who are entitled to travel on various forms of staff tickets.

It could be divided into airline alliances or airlines, and topics for discussion could be:
- What is the difference between various staff ticket categories?
- Which airlines' staff tickets can be used on which airlines?
- Best routes/flights/days to travel on stand-by
- Best chances for being upgraded on staff ticket
- Special discounts for airline staff (hotels, restaurants etc.)
- Cockpit/jumpseat discussions
- Staff travel dresscodes
- Staff travel experiences on various airlines
Etc. etc. etc.

To paraphrase what I drum into new employees when explaining airline travel benefits : "The first rule of staff travel is YOU DO NOT TALK ABOUT STAFF TRAVEL".

Anyone who has legitimate access to airline travel benefits has access to answers to all the questions you have raised. The ones they do not have access to, there is usually a legitimate reason for them not having access.

An occasional thread on this issue is fine, but a forum is immense overkill. Just my $0.02 in opposition to this proposal.

Airline crews have access to private discussion fora and, imo, this is the proper place for staff travel discussion, not a public IBB like this one.

And considering how few staff actually post here, it is a very limited audience. In the past, similar posts have shown up in the particular airline/hotel forum... and that seems appropriate.

As Nick says, there are other forums more appropriate for intensive disussions on this subject.

I agree that certain information regarding staff travel would not be appropriate for a public forum, but that is solved by forum rules, moderators and common sense. A lot of information is publically available on the net, but I have yet to discover a place dedicated for this topic.
I picture competely harmless discussions like:

Q: I want to fly on a staff ticket from city YY to city ZZ. I can either fly with airline XX via Frankfurt or airline WW via Vienna. Which route should I chose?

A: Based on my experience, flight XX is your best option because they use aircraft QQ and they have 3 daily flights. Flight YY has a smaller plane and only 2 daily flights bla bla bla....

But I will not elaborate more on this. It was just an idea.

The problem I see Flux is that very few people ON THIS BOARD would know those answers.... not many of us fly on "staff" tickets.... and know the ins and outs of them. While we can usually help on general "load" questions... that is not all that comes into play with those tickets. Just seems like there are other more suited web places for the info you require.

Anyone who doesn't know but is somehow entitled (i.e., a friend/family member's pass) could/should ask the employee about the rules.

This is a bad idea. It may also invite unsuspecting discipline to a well-intentioned airline employee who was simply giving a quick answer to someone's question.

Hello Flux,

you may find what you are looking for in the "crewlounge" as that is the airline employees forum with all tips and tricks.

FT is more but not exclusively directed to the general audience who usually does not have access to ID tickets.

Cheers,
