I rented from Alamo recently, even though I am a National Exec because I could not find a rate below $400 for a week out of ONT. Alamo was the cheapest at $200.

I realize that Alamo has a TON of fees for bringing back early or overkeeping, anywho...

I rented a Full size and proceeded to the combined National/Alamo rental car lot.

The Alamo Full Size section has a Ford Fusion and Chevy Malibu (MIDSIZE cars in my opinion, I HATE  when rental car companies classify MIDSIZE cars as FULL SIZE) and one Impala (with 30K miles and smelled like smoke).

No other Full Size cars...the Emerald Aisle and Executive Aisle were right behind the Alamo Full Size Aisle....and were PACKED with cars.

Frustrated with my options and not confident with the staff behind the counter, I basically "traded" a "FCAR" (full size lingo at National/Alamo) from the Emerald Aisle and drove up with my Alamo contract. No problem, I zipped out.

I noticed also that on the hangtags in the car they never checked off "Emerald Aisle" or "Executive" at ONT, so I could theoretically drive off with and car in the class that I rented. (Got a Impala LS (I know base model) but with 1500 miles on it). I figured that the guy driving the car and parking it from the cleaning pit, it really DOESN'T matter where he parks it, as long as it is the SAME class on my contract.

Has anyone else done this and is this kosher to keep on trying?
