TRANS-TASMAN flights are set to be reclassified as domestic routes, removing stringent immigration procedures and cutting fares by up to 30 per cent.

After two years of discussions, Australian and New Zealand Customs are planning trials to clear passengers before they board flights between the countries.

Air New Zealand, Qantas, Jetstar and Pacific Blue believe the move could result in fares being cut by up to 30 per cent.

Is the preclearance similar to US preclearance in Canada, some Caribbean islands, Bahamas, Ireland?

Is the preclearance similar to US preclearance in Canada, some Caribbean islands, Bahamas, Ireland?Is only in discussion at this time. Can’t see it being anything except pre clearance.
The chance of the TOTAL air fares dropping 30% is zilch. There are existing threads on FT about this
