Hilton HHonors - Interesting thing regarding 48hr force

You know how the 48hr force is a diamond/pr gold benefit. What's not spread around is that there is no limit to the amount of rooms Hilton will force into a hotel. So even if the hotel is completely booked, Hilton can sell it's entire inventory again thru the 48hr force, regardless if it affects already booked diamonds. The chances of this happening are admittedly slim but it's came into light during the inauguration. DC area hotels that were booked were seeing a decent amount of diamonds forcing their way in and hotels were going to have no where to walk the other guests. Hotels were allowed unconditional EDD status for that time period to prevent anymore problems.

HII- thank you for so many informative posts in such a short period of time. I hope you stay here and don't get burned out as often seems to happen with insiders posting on FT (in general not specific to HH board.)

The EDD has a reason for existence that any reasonable person would expect would be applied to extraordinary events like the inauguration. Without this safeguard there would be no commercial feasibility for the Diamond Force. ;)

The nice thing about hilton is they do not abuse the EDD. I have been suprised at some of the places I could get into. I have seen other chains call a convention a EDD.

A couple of years ago I was traveling monthly to Duluth, GA (John's Creek) and stayed always in the same HGI. The hotel was consistently sold out at least a couple of nights each week, and the Diamond Desk regularly did a force.

Then suddenly one week they said the couldn't force it for my next stay, and the two closest Hilton properties were also in that same category. I had the DD book me about 10 miles south and I called one of the desk clerks at the John's Creek location to see if he could help me. "No problem Mr. 6z", and in two minutes I had a room. Plus he honored our normal corporate rate, which is not suppose to be available on a force. Guess it helps to be a regular!

When I checked in another desk clerk said they had walked eight RSVP's that night, to a new Holiday Inn Express a block away.

But.....

The hotels can just declare "extrodinary demand." even when there is not a special event in play. The Hampton Inn HRL does this and the DD is useless as they said they can not contest when the hotels declare this. In talking to the manager, she says "I dont like to walk guests so after a few diamond forces I just declare "extrodinary demand" I complained about this to the dd and they did not seem to care in the least.
