Looking for help with an upcoming ICN transfer.

I will be flying UA for SFO-ICN and transferring to TG for ICN-BKK (coming back the same way). Traveling on two seperate tickets (UA and TG).

Total time between flights is 3 hours each direction.

1. Anyone know if I will need to go through security/immigration/check in at ICN or is there a transfer desk that for TG to have the boarding passes issued? I will have luggage but in the past, I've not had a problem with UA checking luggage to the final destination even if seperate tickets so hopefully that won't be an issue.

2. If I need to go through immigration etc., what are the chances of making the connections? My TG ticket is flexible so I am able to change to a different flight but unfortunately the current 8:50p flight I have is the last TG to BKK...

Thanks!

I recently transferred from TG to AC at ICN, and it was no problem at all. I did not have my connecting AC boarding pass, which the security people at the transfer checkpoint wanted to see, so I showed them my printed itinerary. They examined that closely, and let me through. I was able to get my BP directly at the gate, and the OZ lounge people were fine with only the printed itinerary and an explanation that there was nobody at the AC departure gate yet.

You will re-clear security but you do not need to go through immigration. Both UA & TG (indeed, all *A except OZ use this I believe) use the newly opened mid-field terminal, so connections between the two are easy. Just look for the transfer signs and do NOT take the train to the main terminal as most others will.

3 hour connection is more than enough time, even if you do clear immigration.

As you already know, it would be best for UA to check your bags all the way through. Just have your itinerary handy for both UA and the ICN transfer security people.
