i have been googling/traveladvisor.com to find for a GOOD and WELL RECOMMENDED budget hotel in Paris for 3 nights.
Looking to spend EUR 90 /night.
Sadly, I always get disappointed when reading reviews of 3 star or 2 star or even 1 star hotels in Paris.
Any thoughts.
Thanks

You might try the European/Paris forum and also the Trip Advisor Paris forum. I have always had good luck with the Trip Advisor site.

What are your dates? That has a huge impact on prices.
I doubt you'll find a good deal at any hotel's standard rates. One way or another, the best deals are usually with a third-party booking site. If you are willing to sacrifice a perfect location (which you probably have to do anyway at your price range), then Priceline for certain zones can be a good option.
What are some examples of disappointing 3* hotels that you have read about?

majority of them include: sketchy location, bad/rude/ignorant receptionist, bad rooms - dirty/stained sheets, dirty rooms/bathrooms etc.
dates 23 march to 26 march. 3 nights. 3 adults
been searching around. i think what makes it difficult is that we need a triple.

90 Euros is not a reasonable expectation for a good 3* hotel in Paris. But this one is 119 Euros for your dates for a triple. You cannot expect anything spectacular, but (in our experience) the staff were friendly, the location was good, and the rooms were clean. The bathroom is small and dated, if that matters. (We were lucky to get a special for 80 Euros for a twin room, with breakfast, over the Easter weekend 2008.)
I'd also look for Holiday Inn Express hotels on the outskirts, try www.accorhotels.com (although the 3 adults requirement will make things tough), and Hotwire (searching for 3 adults). I'd also consider hostels with good reviews - your budget requirement is more in that range.

My concern is that you have expectations of 4* quality for a hostel price.

I'm just posting to say that I sympathize with you but can't provide encouragement.
My standards are pretty low, so I would have been perfectly happy in a mediocre 2* (even a 1* or chain like ETAP) for that price or less, but I was traveling with someone who was looking for something a bit nicer (but also not wanting to spend a lot of money). We searched Tripadvisor and other sites and read through probably 50-100 hotels' reviews (and reading about 10+ reviews per hotel, that's a lot of reviews to read!), and most were as you said--small complaints about the location, noise, etc.
We ended up settling on a 3* that a friend had stayed in several months ago for about 150 Euros per night, and it was fine for me but on the lower end of acceptable for my traveling companion.
I just don't think you're going to find what you're looking for without a trade-off.
There is a residential hotel on the eastern edge (very end of the 11 line on the Metro) that I stayed at in 1999 that's not too expensive (under 90, I think, and--no promises--but I think closer to 60), but it requires a minimum 3 nights' stay and doesn't offer the services a traditional hotel does (daily maid service, etc.). It's nice and in a decent area, though. I'd need to go find the brochure I have for them, though--I couldn't find them on Google, but their brochure did list a website.

I have always found the website EuroCheapo to be an excellent source of clean, affordable hotels.

The Suitehotel Paris Porte de Montreuil is not in a great location, and in fact I would advise women not to stay there, based on my daughter's experience being constantly harassed when she visited the market right near this hotel. But you can get a room for 3 people for 89 Euros (prepaid) for your dates.

thank you everyone for your great replies.
right now i have an idea of which hostel to stay:
St. Christopher's Paris in Paris, France
159, rue de Crimée, Paris (19th District)
http://www.st-christophers.co.uk/paris-hostels
EUR26 per person per night. * 3 adults = EUR78
The goal is to find a budget hotel close enough to all the attractions + clean and comfortable stay.
Really do appreciate all your thoughts!! keep them coming!!! thanks!

That hostel is a little far out, but with the metro it will be fine. It's also close to the now-cool Canal St. Martin neighborhood.
However, I don't see that the hostel has triple rooms on its website. Did you all plan to stay in a dorm?

we stayed last January at the Hotel Eden-Montmartre in a triple room.
nice modern bathroom, good location, we also had the breakfast, prepaid, it was a good start before days of hectic sightseeing. The staff were friendly, the metro is a short walk, buses whizz past the front door ^, it wasnt noisy, and the staff were great, we got the eurostar to london for a few days and left some luggage in their luggage room and all went well.
your dates are showing 108euros they have their own website, google them for a look :)
hmm, can't see the breakfast on their site anymore, shame it was great value, but there are lots of great local bakerys, it is Paris after all

For Marciano, I think the reviews are as good as you will get for a hotel in that class. I read reviews that the staff were unfriendly, but I'd say that to us it was one of the most friendly hotels I've been to in Europe. The bathroom was small and dated, like I said. The rooms were not as tiny as at some hotels, but maybe someone would think them too small. It's definitely not a luxury hotel. Our room looked exactly like the picture, but I can't say if everyone's room does.
So it's a good deal for the price, in my opinion, but if you want a better hotel you'd have to pay more, probably a lot more.

I've stayed here before without any complaints... it's not in the city center, but it's located directly on a metro stop and it takes just 15 minutes to get to Trocadero or the city center. Like all European hotels, rooms are on the smaller side. It looks like a triple for your dates would be EUR135 per night though.
Try www.ibishotels.com and look for Happy 30 deals. I got an Ibis in Bastille for 59 Euros!

The classic cheap sleep in Paris is the Hôtel Tiquetonne at 6 rue Tiquetonne in the 2nd arrondissment.
You can get a double with ensuite facilities for 50 euros or a single for as little as 30 euros.

For a good budget hotel placed in the Latin Quartier the hotel Marignan is highly recommended. It is also very popular so booking a long time ahead is essential.

You can also find many good suggestions and search by price, arrondissement etc along with traveller reviews at www.venere.com.

I stayed here last month http://www.hoteldeturin.com/en/tarif_en.htm . Booked it at the Airport information counter at CDG for 46 EUR. The room was poor, but the price was right. Right by the Pigale Metro station. I'd stay there again, but it ain't the Ritz.

I'll throw another plug for Hotel de Rouen in the 1st, 5mins away from the Louvre and pretty central to a lot of places. A double w/ WC is about 60E/night and they even have quads (though it's kind of tight... stayed in one last trip).
Stayed there three times and found reception very friendly & helpful (helped booked restaurants for us). No curfew (you get a code for the front door). Free WiFi.
On the otherhand, pretty steep flights of stairs with no elevator. Very, very basic rooms with a number of things that could be update or receive minor repairs.
It's basically a good safe and central place to put your head down at night and for pitstops. It's not furnished and geared to be comfortable to stay in your room throughout the day.
We found them on EuroCheapo.com also.

Try Tim Hotel. There are several locations in Paris. The rooms are very small though. We had booked a triple at the Tim Hotel Opera/Madeleine a few years ago. Good location being across from the Gare Saint-Lazare and taxi stand, within walking distance to Galeries Lafayette,...

I stayed at the Hotel Cosmos in the 11th arrondissment during December 2007. The website shows the rate for a triple as 72euro. The only negatives I thought were a small bathroom and some slight street noise. Try asking for a room away from the street. There was a bus stop near the hotel and the nearest metro stop was 5 minutes away. There aren't any major landmarks or anything in this area but with the metro being fast and efficient it doesn't really matter anyway.
You should also buy a carte orange for 22 euro (price has probably gone up) as it is a great value. You're going during the spring season and the weather has to be better than when I went--constant 30 degree weather. I had fun though.
Here's the link to the website if you're interested:
