Hilton HHonors - Upgrades when purchasing Executive Floor rooms. Any luck?

We usually book EF rooms when staying at Hiltons. Once, at the NY Hilton, we were upgraded to a Jr. suite. Other then that, it never happens. Now I just take the free internet as my gold vip preference. I know it is not the policy of the program, but has anyone had luck in obtaining upgrades to higher class rooms when booking exec floor rooms?

I am, for a handful of days more, still a Diamond so my experience may not be quite the same as you. Last year, because of a contract change at work, I realised that I wasn't going to be a Diamond in 2009 and that I might be pushed to make Gold. In order to make sure of it, I booked Exec Floor three times to push the base points over 60,000. I actually only needed to do it once, but I wanted to forgo the "pleasures" of a Hilton in one city for a different hotel. Of the three stays, I was upgraded to an junior suite twice (Hilton Berlin and Hilton Munich City), but I do have a fairly regular pattern of staying at those hotels twice a year for a number of years now. I was downgraded at the Hilton Sydney as whilst they sell Exec Floor smoking rooms, they don't have any.

Not SOP. The T&Cs do not state an upgrade to level above the one booked.

The TOS are silent, however, tell them what suite you want and you might get it (mostly in places where EF meens something = outside the US).

I stay at the Hilton NY every week. Personally, i prefer a King Deluxe over any of the other rooms. The executive floor rooms are not upgraded, and since i'm diamond, i get the same priveleges for the executive lounge.
As for upgrades, it states on the VIP Property benefits:
Upgrades exclude suites, villas and specialty accommodations
I would say you aren't going to get an upgrade to the suites unless you are extremely friendly with the hotel staff and they recognize your face from week to week. I've never been in one of the suites, but i'm perfectly happy with the rooms i get there.

I got suite upgrades in Dortmund (booked deluxe plus) and Beijing (booked ex room).

Germany is particularly interesting in this aspect. I have got quite a few upgrades to junior suite from a regular room. When I book EF room, no upgrades whatsoever and no full breakfast, just the lounge one. I've been able to remove extras like parking or internet from the bill in some rare cases.
