Hilton HHonors - Does anyone request upgrades when booking online?

Does anyone recommend mentioning gold vip status and requesting an upgrade by adding it to the comment section while booking online? I've thought about it, yet it sounds redundant. Hilton already know your status, and will upgrade if available. Do you think it would help or hinder an upgrade? Does anyone even read those comments/requests?

I always add as follows:
"As a Gold VIP I request to be provided with an Executive Floor room please"
and after 7 years as a Gold I have been denieded only twice - Glasgow and Tokyo ;)

I posted something about this in the diamond upgrade thread. The comments in the box are given higher priority over what's in the profile. I know the comments are relevant to your reservation and not possibly out of date.

Well... 20 years HH member never ONCE have I made an upgrade request in the booking box and yet I get upgraded well over 80% (100% International) of the time and never once have I been denied lounge access.
Can you say a waste of time in my considered opinion? :)

I sometimes mention a specific room I like. And quite frequently (at the hotels I travel more frequently) and up in the suite I mentioned.:)

If I have a specific need or note, I always make a small polite comment in the box. Usually it is when I am traveling with family. Generally when I check in they mention the comment (regardless of whether or not they can fulfill it). If it is for a special occasion, they always make an effort to accommodate.
When I am just traveling by myself or if I don't really care, I don't bother adding anything.
As long as you are polite, "it couldn't hurt". Just don't expect miracles.

You sure it's the comments? I always put a kind request in, but I think it's mostly ignored. I usually ask at the desk and they are much more obliged to help me then (personal contact is always better I guess).

I've always had good luck with receiving specific room #'s at properties I frequent, when I put the request in this box. Doesn't always work for upgrade requests, though.

I always make the upgrade request when booking online.
Does it worK?
I have no idea--have not compared upgrade success to bookings through central reservations.
But I am sure there is no harm.
So what's to lose besides 20 seconds typing in a request.

I always put in "Please extend Diamond Upgrade if available, Thank you". Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Me also. The actual wording I use is:
Diamond Upgrade Requested. Thank You.

I always do, and I tend to use the verbiage that I have seen the Diamond Desk use when I've called them to add an upgrade request to a reservation and then had them email me the reservation (if you just look at your reservation online the comments field is hidden; but if they email it to you the comments are there): "REQ AVL DMD UPGR"

Guess this isn't standard language. One of mine reads:
REQUEST UPGRADE TO EXCETIVE (sic) LEVEL :D

When I'm travelling on holiday I will use the comment section and politely ask for an upgrade as a diamond member. I think it varies hotel by hotel whether they read the comments or not. On a few occasions they've said that they are pleased to be able to meet my request and have upgraded me.....
So it can't hurt

Add me to the list of Diamonds that puts the request in but feels that it doesn’t really matter at some properties. I just finished a stay at the Doubletree Savannah. They were light on occupancy and I got a great rate of $96 per night. I requested a Diamond upgrade to a King room in the reservation.
When I checked in I asked if there was an upgrade available. The front desk clerk told me that there was nothing available in my room category. I asked what that meant and he just repeated the words. I will chalk that up to a poorly trained clerk.

As a gold, I've been upgraded frequently without asking for it in the reservation comment section. However, I ALWAYS ask the front desk if there are any complimentary upgrades available.

Always ask too. Sounds like consensus is do both. Can't hurt.
