US Airways Dividend Miles - Need help with same day plane change

I booked a reservation for tomorrow and in my haste booked a pm flight, rather than an morning flight that I needed. I've gotten several different answers from the Plat desk and am hoping someone here might give me some insight. Rather than pay a $500 change fee today (difference in air fare plus the $150 change fee), I want to change to a flight tomorrow morning on a 10 am flight. There appears to be at least 11 seats left on that flight. Would I be able to make that change over the phone (say after midnight and thus on the same day of the change) or do I have to go to the airport and ask to be put on a stand by list?
Also, my understanding is that for Plat is that the same day plane change of $50 is free. All of the Plat desk CSRs have indicated a $50 fee.
It was all my error, but is a business trip and I have to be sure to be on the morning flight. Appreciate any help - thanks!

The same day move up or standby has to be done at the airport. Per the US terms of carriage, to change your reservation to the earlier flight without going to the airport the day of departure involves the $150 change fee and fare difference. Some have reported being successful in changing a ticket within 24 hours of ticketing without any charges, so it appears to be the agent you happen to get on the phone - some are sticklers for the rules and some will give you some leeway.

You have to make the change at the airport, on stand-by basis, to qualify for the 'move up' price of $50. It is waived for Platinum; from the website:

Stand-by fee waived (http://www.usairways.com/awa/content/dividendmiles/preferred/platinum.aspx)

Move up to an earlier flight for free. We waive the standby fee for our Platinum Preferred customers who want to move up to an earlier flight on the same day of travel.

As long as the availability on the earlier flight remains good and you're willing to take a little chance that you won't be able to get on it, standby would probably work out for you without any additional expense. As a Platinum, you'll be at or near the top of the standby list.

If you absolutely can't take the risk that you won't make it out on the early flight, you might be stuck paying $500.

If you booked it recently and sincerely just booked the wrong time, definitely call (perhaps even a few times) to see if you can find a sympathetic ear. YMMV there, but it's worth a shot.
