I will be spending a month in Europe this summer, mostly in Germany with family but also in the Balkans for about a week and will have one week free to roam. I will be 'working' during this time, taking calls on the cell (no problem have plan lined up for that but that company does not provided data service). I need fairly good bandwidth and a fair amount of megabytes per day (between 50-150 meg per day). I also need FTP to work and preferably Yahoo IM to work in addition to email and browser.
I have some info on DT's web n walk which looks good because the hardware is not too expensive and they have a pay as you go for about 5 euro day with a gig per day limit, however, the say IM and 'peer to peer' is not allowed (not sure if FTP is considered peer to peer and thus bocked). I have heard Vodafone Germany might have similar plans as well as simply.de, but I don't speak German and can't find any details in English.
I am willing to go with a plan that only works in Germany and wing it for the rest (hotel based connection plus the cell) but in Germany I will be at relatives who don't have internet (they are wwii generation) and don't want to be coming and going late hours (US business day) from their homes even if there was a local hotspot that was open.
If anyone can offer suggestions/plans that fit the above, the information would be most welcome.
thanks,
