I am currently a HH Gold member. Since Sep 08 I have completed 10 stays (30 nights), I am currently working away from home during the week meaning that I live in a Hilton four nights a week Mon through Fri for the forseeable future. I also have other stays booked at the Hilton this year (4).
I am going on honeymoon in Jul, and want to stay at a particular Hilton there. I would like to stay on my honeymoon as a Diamond member to make it that extra special.
Is there any way that I can move to Diamond? Will HH give me a challenge, given my activity in the past and in the future? How do I get to Diamond?
Any ideas? Now that my stays and base pts have been reset at Jan I can't see myself having enough activity to reach it..

The quickest, yet slightly painful way, is to not stay at the same Hilton during your entire week. check in to a different property each night and you will end up with 4-5 stays per week instead of 1. Assuming you are in an area with multiple properties.

There are no other Hiltons where I am, so unfortunately that is not an option. Would emailing HH be an option?

There are fifteen weeks between now and July.
If you already have 10 stays you only need another 20 to get to diamond, just moving out for one night each week for five of those weeks into another hotel and back in the next night will do it for you.
Hilton will probably not let you challenge it.
Not sure what you are expecting, but I wouldn't go nuts trying to get to diamond before the honeymoon. There's no guarantee you will get anything out of it other than free breakfast. People who are not diamonds have a very overrated view of what the benefits are, people who are diamonds know sometimes they are great, but sometimes it's two bottles of water and a small pack of oreos when you get into your room.

I completely agree with cordelli - on both counts.
I was going to suggest the check in/out method as well if you want to try and make it. But as he said, diamond is nice but not as nice as you may think.
It very dependant on where you are planning on going for the honeymoon. Some properties treat you very well, and I've been lucky enough to been upgraded to some amazing rooms, but there are many that you're lucky to get the water.
Where are you heading - if you don't mind me asking of course.

Your best bet is to contact the hotel directly prior to your stay. Let them know you are on your honeymoon and make reservations with the concierge at restaurants, etc. This will hopefully get you that something extra!

Given that's 10 stays since September and the change as of January 1 to the calendar year for earning status, any stay last year may not count.
There are 3 (Standard) ways of attaining Diamond in a calendar year:
28 stays,
60 nights &
100,000 Base points
I have heard of people who are close (e.g. 96,000 base points) being comped on the strength of forward booking.
You post of having 4 stays so far this year; how many "Nights" have you had since January 1? (16?)
If you are staying 4 nights per week, it would take 15 weeks to attain Diamond on nights (11 if you already have 16 nights).
If you split your 4 nights stays with one night (night 2 or 3) at another property you will earn 2 stays each week.

I have 100k base points nearly - the double points promotion has helped that.
So far - by the end of this week, I will have 4 stays this year (12 nights) and near 16k base points.

How does the double base point promotion to get double base points? :p From what I see it counts for bonus only

Errr, the double base points only gives you more points (it gives you in points as much as you get with base points). So you can't qualify on reaching 100k base points earlier with the double base point promo.

As posted the "Double Base Point" promo is misnamed. Through it you get bonus points equal to the Base points earned. Bonus points do not count for status.
Your current base point tally is shown to the right of the "My Account" on hhonors.com after logging on.
It is shown under Qualifying Summary: Qualifying Summary what's this? ('https://secure.hilton.com/en/hhonors/help/help_myaccount.jhtml;#qualifying_summary')
Stays Completed: ..
Nights Completed: ..
Base Points: ..It is not that shown alongside "TOTAL POINTS".

I agree with the previous posts that Diamond benefits can be spotty and perhaps not worth it. However, at the Conrad Bali they consistently have treated me (and other Diamonds that I know) very well and it is worth getting, if you can. On the other hand, the advice of calling the hotel in advance to tell them that it is your honeymoon is your best bet regardless. I do not know who the GM of that hotel is now, but the previous one was very good (he is at another chain now.) I'm sure that they will look after you if you are very nice about it...it is a lovely property.
Congratulations and good luck....

Not sure what your room rate is, but if you have stayed 12 nights and you have 16k base points so far this year. = $133 a night
15 weeks * 4 nights * 133 = 8000 = 80,000 base points + 16,000 already = Total 96000
So if you do some laundry, eat in the restaurant, you should be able to rack up $400 in incidentals over 15 weeks to give you the 100,000 points needed for Diamond.
Not sure if it is important, but I would aim to get to Diamond level a couple of weeks early to make sure all the paper work is done. So the 2 nights Hilton, 1 night somewhere else, 1 night Hilton will give you 2 stays a week, * 12 weeks gives you the 24 stays you need on top of the 4 you have already. Plus 15 stays in another hotel chain will give you good status with someone else.
Staying 4 nights a week in a hotel, staying another night in a hotel for the weekend is the last thing you want to do, but if you book a reward stay on a Saturday with the future Mrs Topyam, reward stays count as well, so you get to 24 stays quicker.

As dumb as this sounds, if there is only one hilton and you want to build up your stays (since 28 stays are much less than 60 nights) you could consider staying at a non-hilton for the alternate nights...

My company likes us to book the hilton, so moving out during the week isn't an option - I looked into it today..
Think I will contact the manager beforehand.
Would the amount of stays I have booked in the future help?
Sorry for asking all these q - just would like my honeymoon to be perfect, and I think being diamond instead of gold might help my treatment in the hotel..

I am envious of cordelli's two bottles of water. I always get one which is barely enough to wash down the Oreos. I used my points for a Conrad Bangkok stay in December and they gave me a terrific upgrade (may have been because there were only 15 guests after the Bangkok airport shutdown). Standard Hilton hotels have always given me a free upgrade unless booked full (about 50% of the time) and then I only get accessed to the executive lounge.

I have had very good luck with gold. This past year I have made diamond, have not seen any difference except the extra bonus points. I have stayed at top hiltons and conrads as gold and have gotten the executive room, floor access, breakfast, spa, etc, etc, so as others have posted, gold is enough, diamond, yet to see a difference.

So far, I have 61k base points.
Do you think I have a case to ask HH to upgrade me based on my activity prior to Jan 09, and my projected activity (4 nights/week plus more)?

Are the 61k base points from 2008 ?
Then they won't count. Check after you login and it should show you the base points for 2009. I show 16k base points and they are all from 2009.
This is what my summary shows :
Stays Completed: x
Nights Completed: y
Base Points: 16,062
If you already got 61k base points just in 2009 your room rates must be pretty steep and you should have no problem to reach 100k base points within the next 6 weeks :).

Finally (see post #12) :)
So to earn Diamond you need a further:
24 more stays (weeks?)
48 more nights (12 weeks?)
80K base points (at an average of 1667 base per night that's another 48 nights)
No matter what, at the current rate you are looking at about 12 more weeks of this.
I would continue your stay pattern for the next two months, then contact HHonors and then ask to be comped Diamond.

With 4 nights per week this will be 12 more weeks. Do you have 12 more weeks until July ? If you are just a hair short you could also consider spending a weekend away from home and add some days but not sure how much Diamond status is really worth to you.

You may be disappointed with the Diamond benefits after all this trouble, depending on which property you're going for your honeymoon.

I went to HNL for my honeymoon and LAS for my one year anniversary. Like others said, don't get too worked up over the benefits you'll get. Remember, if you're visiting a popular honeymoon destination, you won't be the only honeymooners. I was a diamond for both, mentioned it in my reservation and at checkin and didn't notice any favorable treatment other than a congratulations and the normal room upgrades.
Again, just throwing this out there. There are many, many threads about what honeymooners expect, only to be upset at the result.
As always, YMMV.
It's always nice to take the Mrs. to a hotel and have my status recognized :)
